We’re in the worst timeline. But in an alternate timeline Trump stayed in NYC and is primarily remembered as a producer of over the top extravagant musicals that nonetheless acquired a cult following

It’s surprisingly easy. Everyone is automatically registered, ballots sent in the post. Good graphic design that always follows the same format, with clear concise explanations of each measure. And the government, as well as political parties, give a one word recommendation- yes or no.

tbh Icelandic people abroad can also be loud in public spaces, as they understandably assume that no one knows what they’re saying. Unlike loud Americans, it’s kind of charming in a way

Latest polls indicate a rejection of the far right’s initiative. I take great pleasure in the millions that EMS Chemie has thrown down the drain with their stupid ad campaign

Fresh off its fortunately unsuccessful initiative to cap the Swiss population at 10m, regret to inform you that the Swiss far-right is back with another one. Whereas the anti-immigration measure was framed as being pro-sustainability, this one is all about neutrality! pro-peace! anti-war! 🚨🚨🚨

People need to get a grip. Leopold Aschenbrenner didn’t “crash” the stock market. The S&P 500 is barely off all-time highs. (But yes, some over-leveraged traders got taken out, that’s the way it usually works.)

this is a great chart from Bespoke (@peark.es 👍), because it illustrates how far we are from a true all-encompassing speculative frenzy as we saw with the Dotcom bubble. having been around back then, I remember the ultimate Neuer Markt debacle cc: @michellev.bsky.social @dsquareddigest.bsky.social

For sure there’s been speculative frenzy but that’s a different conversation. Prediction markets, crypto, betting, not to mention corruption and grift at the highest levels of govt. But don’t really get the handwringing about SA and sort of see it as a unique situation

Who were the experienced investors? If you mean Jane St, they probably understood the likely variance of outcome and marked it accordingly

GenevaGirl @michellev.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
as PM you know that you will eventually be margin-called. Hopefully you’re smart enough to know that unrealised gains are exactly that, and mark your net worth accordingly. The LPs that come out looking the worst are those that gave him money *after* Year 1, when he was reportedly up by over 1000%
120
GenevaGirl @michellev.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
I don’t think the point was to ever run this in a risk-managed way, as a typical hedge fund. The LPs were other VCs, Silicon Valley insiders, Jane St. Again, not the typical institutional investors. And even after the partial liquidation of the portfolio, the fund is still up since inception.

I miss those vintage World Cups, where key matches would overlap London/NYC trading hours, and liquidity would become nonexistent esp. in certain EM bonds. The outrage and complaints from disinterested US traders was brilliant
