He knew sometime had passed, but how long exactly, he wasn’t sure. There was the beginning of a stubble on his chin, and his nails had grown longer than he usually trimmed them to. His hair had taken on an aqua sheen that he didn’t remember ever getting. Besides, the kimono he was wearing was far more elaborate than the one he had; who then had given it to him?

No matter, he had to find help and return to Crick as soon as he could. Knowing that he was made an involuntary sacrifice stung, even if deep down he knew his worth was nothing beyond a willing sex slave during his heat. Still, stabbing a proverbial dagger on another Confederate pirate’s back was high treason, and Rasho-jisan would want to hear about it, salacious details be damned. He’d figure out what had happened to himself later, and focus first on the fact that he’d somehow survived.

Jacek's chubby hands touched the stem gently. He didn't quite understand what mama was saying, but he had learned enough about her garden to know that you don't squeeze the stems of the plants too hard or they broke.

"Do you remember what this plant is, my little Hyacinth?" Mama always spoke in Eorzean when babcia wasn't there to criticize her accent.

"Issa hebbe-oar."

"That's right, it's a hellebore. Very good!" Mama tucked a strand of long hair behind Jacek's ear. "You'll be mama's helper when you're grown, won't you? You'll help me tend the garden, little Hyacinth?"

"Yah!" Jacek yelled, clapping his hands together.

Water lapped against the side of the gondola as the pair sailed down the canal surrounded by the faux city of gold formed from false promises and grief. It had been something of a romantic voyage at first, they supposed, but a pit formed in the bottom of their stomach aas G'raha uttered those words.

"Had you this?" B'onggo repeated back to him. "This?" They gestured to their surroundings. "A city filled with the memories of the deceased yet utterly devoid of life at the same time! That would have been enough to satiate you?"

When Alisaie demanded Revenir’s attention at the top of the morning the following day, Revenir realized she perhaps could have planned better.

Internally sodden and heavy-limbed, she dragged herself to the central hub of the Rising Stones to sit on a barstool. A sticky sickness pulled at her stomach every time she shifted her torso, a headache mulling about her temple like the rumble of a thunderstorm.

"Leaving already, Green?" his fellow party goer called as he was trying to make a discreet exit.
Eheeya faced the man, smiling brightly and apologetically, and ran a hand through the back of his hair in feigned boyish nonchalance.
"Yeah, sorry, haha. I have somewhere to be. Busy schedule, you know," he signed, conspiratorial, as if he wasn't eager to reach his destination.
"Ah, shame. Well, at least whatever you've been up to, it's been doing you good. We were all worried you'd get worse after the whole Arcadion thing, but if anything your dancing's been getting even better."
"You think so?" Eheeya said with another laugh that was only half practiced.
"Yeah. Especially recently. It's like you're... like you're moving differently. In general, not just for dancing."

"Ah," Eheeya said, before covering the heat rising on his skin with more babbling. "Yeah, I've been collaborating with other artists you see. Great for inspiration. Nothing better when you're in a rut." He laughed again, hopefully not too nervously. "And the Arcadion fighting really helped my form, too."
"Truuue. Your biceps do look firmer."
"Well, sorry baby but I gotta dash."
"Oh, yeah, right! See you next Saturday!"
He saluted the man with a grin and a wink, and hastily walked out before someone else could stop him, striding through the brightly lit street, then a less bright one, and eventually the maze of alleys that constituted the less mainstream side of True Vue.

In the heat of the dance, he hardly noticed it anymore. But now that he was walking on his own, and that the light and noises of the city were muffled, the rubbing of the ropes against his skin was becoming harder and harder to ignore. The twilight made him all too aware of his body, and to other people's rare presence, and he almost jumped when a familiar voice called from behind his shoulder, dangerously close to his ear.
"Delayed again, huh?"
"Su--Sugar!" He all but squeaked, panting a little as he tried to regain his breath.
She was sitting on a crate, just past the corner he'd just turned, and she grinned down at him as he turned to face her.
"I was just coming to the studio," he said, shoulders slumping.
"I know. Just thought I'd wait for you here. But maybe I should just go pick you up at the club next time?" she suggested, head tilted sideways in an impish grin.

"... I thought you didn't like the noise."
"I don't. But I also wouldn't like my masterpiece to be tampered with on the way here." She stood, and walked forward on her crate, cupping his cheek in her hand. "I do care about you, you know."
"... I know."
She smiled and kissed him, right in the middle of the street, and his fur stood on end with nervousness and excitement and overstimulation.

"...now then," she said when she finally let him come up for air, "shall we find out what beautiful new shapes we can make you into?" and there was nothing he could say to that.

It started slowly, almost imperceptively.

G'raha Tia hadn't noticed it at first, hadn't noticed the pin prick of crystal that started on his chest, just above his heart. It was an annoyance, an itch.

When he did notice it, he rationalized it away. It was a trick of the light, a scab from some wound that only looked to be crystal – anything other than the truth. He wasn't yet ready for the truth.

Though, nothing could've truly prepared him for the truth.
