They stood on a floating island, ice-cold and windswept, coated in coarse rime. The sky stretched out forever in an overwhelming glacial blue: gorgeous, gem-like, glittering. Too beautiful for tragedy despite a future fast on ambivalent hands that would turn ‘round the clock.

“Right on time, arriving as called,” Halmarut complimented him, smiling politely.

“As contracted.”

today is the last day of write. after today i'll have put out ~1/3 of what i did last year for not-writes (albeit for a diff fandom), which i'll say is pretty good! considering last year was an insane output combo'd with a short novel-length, complete story rough draft i'm all in all fairly pleased!

When Alisaie demanded Revenir’s attention at the top of the morning the following day, Revenir realized she perhaps could have planned better.

Internally sodden and heavy-limbed, she dragged herself to the central hub of the Rising Stones to sit on a barstool. A sticky sickness pulled at her stomach every time she shifted her torso, a headache mulling about her temple like the rumble of a thunderstorm.

quite fond of this part of the fill i wrote for ffxivwrite yesterday 🤭

He raised his own hand and curled his fingers around her wrist. With quiet determination, he tugged her hand from its place in the center of his sternum and pulled it down to his left, below his chest. Above a split in his ribs.
His eyes did not leave hers as he intoned, “I believe here was where you sought to take my life. I wonder, do you regret your decision?” It was the softest she had ever heard him speak. “Does the Little Spark which set the world ablaze resent the villain the world made?”
Revenir’s chest grew tight with bated breath.
Zenos continued to hold her wrist. She could feel his heart beat. Slow, steady, terrifyingly strong.
He leaned toward her, strands of golden hair tickling her cheek as his hot breath hit her horn and he crooned, “Given the chance, would you do it again?”

“Twenty glasses cannot inter me.” Zenos tilted the one he held, watching the gentle froth slide up the side. He shifted his gaze just so to look at her above the glass’ lip. “Though you appear to be a different story. Have you not the strength to hold a pittance of wine?”
Revenir already had her head on the table; her cheeks flushed, head spinning with a dizzy buzz.
“Not how it works. You,” she muttered, raising a hand to point his direction, “are seven and a half feet tall and built like a—” she frowned, an apt beast not coming to mind. Instead, she lifted her gaze to glance at him, lazing back against his chair, tailored jacked draped across his broad shoulders. His pectoral muscles straining his shirt as he shifted to finish off his fifth glass. He then stared her down, clearly interested in her descriptor.
Heat bloomed across the back of her neck and burned her cheeks. “Never mind.”

the whole thing was very purposefully chosen! originally i was going to dye it pure black, but after i whinged about the price of black dye my friend suggested dark purple, which i'm now quite fond of. red lycoris-like hair piece, magic ring from occult crescent. little pieces that are #lorerelevant

anyway, i think a lot of people assume too much malicious intent from zenos. he's not trying to go out of his way to hurt or torment the wol; he's trying to connect and does not have the vocabulary to communicate that, AND he was born and raised in the meat grinder that is garlemald
