Riverside and San Bernardino Counties didn't cut funding, but still get service cuts - 25% weekend, 36% weekday cuts to the San Bernardino Line, 14% weekday cuts to the 91/Perris Valley Line and 22% weekday cuts to the IE/OC Line. No cuts to the Arrow, but the schedules are more erratic.

The new schedules also abandon pulsed scheduling, which made it easier to transfer between Metrolink trains, and clockface scheduling, which makes it easier to transfer to buses - making it even harder to ride. The Arrow schedules are especially egregious. bsky.app/profile/emos...

I’ve hauled a ladder on my own cargo bike, and contractors in the Netherlands do it every single day. The limits of what's possible aren't dictated by the physical capability of the bike, they're dictated entirely by the quality of your infrastructure.

Peak-only service costs more to operate per train. You have to spend a lot on non-revenue trips (hauling the train to the yard with no passengers) and paying for crew hotel stays. So cutting lower-ridership midday trains actually saves almost no money

The cuts to trains going to Oceanside has been brutal for all of us. I'm driving half the time now because leaving at 5:18 am and getting home at 6:45 pm (assuming an on-time situation which is a big if) is just not doable every day.

Why did a High-Speed Rail Authority board member carve CAHSR out of Prop 45 (on the ballot in November), which streamlines a variety of more harmful projects from CEQA?

The law has long helped stave off problems for communities, wild spaces and ecosystems and, as such, has been praised for enhancing California's natural landscapes and quality of life. But CEQA is also blamed for obstructing needed work, and critics have no shortage of examples of when the regulation has brought seemingly endless delays and frivolous lawsuits.
"It's egregious to suggest we need housing proposals to go on for 19 years and we need a decade of public comments " said Jason Elliott, a longtime policy guru and onetime advisor to Gov. Gavin Newsom. Elliott helped write Proposition 45.

good news: HCD has rejected Beverly Hills' attempted shell game to make 15% of their TOD capacity disappear (TODAP = Transit Oriented Development Alternative Plan) a great win for both housing and mathematical integrity www.hcd.ca.gov/sites/defaul...

While the enacted TODAP addresses many statutory requirements, HCD finds that the TODAP is not in substantial compliance with SB 79 (Government Code Chapter 4.1.5). The standards and provisions of Government Code section 65912.157 continue
to apply in the City unless and until the City adopts a TODAP that has been approved
by HCD.

However, the City of Beverly Hills does not subtract the existing unit count from the gross TODAP capacity; rather, the City’s TODAP has a gross zoned capacity that is equal to SB 79’s net zoned capacity. The City must; therefore, recalculate its TODAP based on the statutory requirements of a net-to-net comparison of the SB 79 zoned
capacity.

it's not that 45 would harm cahsr, it's that by explicitly stating that it would NOT apply to cahsr, it's hard to take them serious when they claim that it wouldn't apply to data centers & a bunch of other problematic uses that aren't explicitly stated as being excluded from using it.

Pew Charitable Trusts found that since 2017, housing in Austin has become MORE affordable for the average worker, thanks to the construction of more than 120,000 new homes.
