Reminder that David Ellison's fortune is entirely contingent on Larry Ellison & Oracle's fate The whole Skydance Project sits on top of a parent balance sheet that the credit market is actively betting against This merger has virtually no chance to actually survive unless AI magically turns around

This story was broken by The Cornell Sun, which @nytimes.com nowhere cites. As a former editor-in-chief of The Sun — and in the name of brave, amazing college newspapers everywhere — do not treat student journalists as truffle pigs, taking what they've sniffed out without credit or compensation.

A woman was drugged, raped, and sexually trafficked to members of a fraternity. Two of the men involved were expelled. Five were given the opportunity to mitigate suspension by *writing an essay.* The dozens of other men who knew this was happening and said nothing? You already know the answer.

I say this as someone who for years got into ridiculous fights on the internet, sought out pointless conflict, and got into trouble for it: mass harassment only makes the target's behavior and health worse. It achieves literally nothing else.

By extension, the guarantor of the Paramount deal is financially beholden to the Chinese government, is that correct? In addition to being under the thumb of ours?
In 2024, Oracle made a $6.5 billion deal to build an enormous data center complex in Malaysia from which it could supply computing power to ByteDance, the Chinese parent company of TikTok, and other foreign companies. Oracle's facility in Malaysia was soon on track to become the second-biggest in the world,
providing by one estimate more than one-fifth of China's total A.I. computing power.
Ellison is now fueling the A.I. ambitions of America's biggest geopolitical rival.

So rural employment is low-key a giant GOP patronage network. Anybody who speaks out against GOP politics stays unemployed! And/or has to leave! THAT is the real secret to GOP dominance in rural areas. It's not "messaging." It's gatekeeping livelihoods.

99% of the time, when someone accuses you of selective outrage, it’s a way of politically demobilizing you and shutting you up “Why are you angry about data centers instead of fast fashion” isn’t about making you care about fast fashion. It’s about shutting you up about data centers And visa versa

A lot of the "rural voters" that we worry about are, in fact, recent transplants & white-flighters. They're urbanites who are bringing their day job $$ with them. They have VERY different concerns than people who actually grew up rural & have to deal w rural opportunities.
