Ukraine’s FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles strike Russian Avitek engineering plant in Kirov
Ukraine's manufacturer has reported that FP-5 "Flamingo" cruise missiles struck the Russian engineering plant "Avitek" in Kirov. Videos circulating online show the launch of these missiles, which traveled more than 1,300 kilometers undetected through Russian air defense systems.
The targeted plant, according to Fire Point’s Facebook page , produces engines for the Tor air defense system, Kh-101 and Kh-59 cruise missiles, and is involved in the repair and modernization of pilot seats for Su-34 and Su-57 aircraft. Video of the missile’s launch depicts the FP-5 taking off from a launcher set up in a field at an unspecified location in Ukraine, accompanied by at least three soldiers in protective gear capturing the launch moment.
“An FP-5 ‘Flamingo’ missile hit the Avitek engineering plant in Kirov, which is part of the Almaz-Antey group,” the statement said.
Fire Point did not specify how many missiles were launched or how many reached their target, which sits roughly 1,300 kilometers from Ukraine in a straight line.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the strike on the plant, writing that one of Russia’s key military enterprises in Kirov was hit, though he did not name Avitek directly. He noted the facility produces weapons used by Russian forces to attack Ukrainians. Zelensky added that overnight on July 24, Ukraine’s defense forces also targeted another unspecified oil facility approximately 1,350 kilometers away. In a video posted on his social media accounts, scenes of fires and one of a strike drone in flight were shown.
OSINT specialist Dnipro Osint wrote on Telegram that the "Flamingo" missile did indeed reach the Avitek plant and struck a workshop whose purpose remains unknown. The analyst geolocated smoke seen in videos to coordinates 58.63477, 49.60913, in the northern districts of Kirov.
On the morning of July 24, Focus reported on the strike against the Avitek plant in Kirov. Photos and videos from the scene show smoke above the facility, which is part of Russia’s military-industrial complex. The estimated time of the strike was around 7:05 AM, when the first complaints surfaced on Russian social media. It appears the impact affected one of the plant’s central buildings, with emergency services dispatched to the scene. Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported an attack by 571 aerial vehicles but made no mention of missile strikes. According to Russian command, drones threatened 15 Russian regions and occupied Crimea. The governor of Kirov region, Alexander Sokolov, wrote on Telegram that there was a missile attack on an unspecified facility, and that there are casualties.
Meanwhile, Russian social media reported drone attacks on new Wildberries warehouses, with fires breaking out at sites in Saint Petersburg and Tula. Another target was a Wildberries logistics center near Simferopol in Russian-occupied Crimea.
