I am not a lawyer, but I used to work with a bunch of them on exactly this issue, including putting together what it would take to do a multinational digital nomad stint in compliance. The answer was always "you can't" or "you can, but lawyers in several countries will get new boats out of it."

Can anyone tell me more about the alien assimilation of a small child? I'm on mat leave right now, and I'm trying to figure out of this is a good candidate for the nursing TBR pile or if it should wait until the hormones die down.

A reminder that voting in America is not a car that takes you to you final destination, it is a bus that takes you closer to where you want to go. James Talarico might be trying to throw trans kids under the bus, but Ken Paxton is driving it, stopping, and backing up over the kids. Twice.

The Patronus-for-spirit-animal discourse well and truly predates the (public) terfery; Rowling expressed support for Maya Forstater in 2019, and I remember the X is my spirit animal/X is my patronus meme swirling at least as far back as 2016. Still a wild choice to wear the shirt in 2026.

I was listening to a bunch of Dolly yesterday and my husband (not a country fan) remarked that every third song made him go, "wait, she did that too?"

A tweet from Michael Harriot: Here's a wonderful thing I noticed. If you talk to someone who was in choir or band at a majority Black HS, you'll eventually discuss those annoying fundraisers for uniforms, instruments, etc. A suprising number will say: "Oh, Dolly Parton paid for ours."

These are delightful, but when browsing through I noticed the color stories are all very similar and none of them would work with my current furniture. The next time you add inventory, maybe branch out some? I hope these all find good homes soon, and I look forward to checking out your new stock!

21 Grahams

From descriptions of Donald Trump, stated between 2015 and 2018, by Lindsey Graham, a Republican senator from South Carolina.

A race-baiting, xenophobic bigot
The Islamic State’s “man of the year”
The death of the GOP’s relationship with Hispanic voters
A death blow to the GOP’s relationship with women
The world’s biggest jackass
A wrecking ball
A salesman of fear
A politician whose ideas are gibberish
A politician who is incapable of representing a mattress company
A poor representation of a Republican
A president who is unfit for office
A president who sometimes crosses the line
A Twitter user whose tweets are sometimes beneath the office of the presidency
A man who has a blind spot
A thoughtful person
A good person
A strong person
A golfer with an accurate drive and an athletic swing
A president doing a great job
The best hope in decades for peace
A potential recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize

No, becausethat would mean that Rubio thought this moment was worth imbuing with aymbolic significance. It's literally the exact same tchotchke he gives to everyone. They didn't even bother getting a ball from a sport the Pope likes.

Let me say that again. When the researchers gave everyone the same amount of money, 100% of the most talented people in the simulation had an impact. When they gave the money only to the “deserving,” most talent went nowhere.

This is UBI. This is exactly UBI. The paper is essentially a mathematical proof that a world with universal basic income is more meritocratic than a world without one, because luck-based distribution — which is what we have now — throws away most of the talent in the room. A UBI world isn't a world that rewards laziness. It's a world where the Einsteins and the Khns and the Kleks and the creatives you've never heard of yet actually get a shot at mastery that their talent deserves, instead of getting filtered out at age 19 because they couldn't afford rent.

Didn't have to write one for college, but my IB extended essay was comparing Chaucer and Dante's use of vulgarity because I was REALLY mad my bio teacher wouldn't let me write about social determinants of public health and writing 10k on swear words felt right.

A few have suggested that some aspects of this mission--joy, international teamwork, diversity--are being played up to stick it to the hateful attitude of the administration. But I don't think it's that. I think it's just that those things are essential to and inseparable from a mission like this.

essentially the entire problem with doctoring is that two totally different professions— medicine and care— have been combined into one, and people who want to do medicine broadly resent the expectation to perform care, to disastrous results.
