One of the first things @imgcat.io did (alongside getting nonprofit paperwork completed) was bring known moderators from the community into the fold. Rather than rebuild the wheel, why not leverage the community's experience to avoid obvious missteps like what is happening here eh?

The developers (and rest of the team) are all part of the community with a shared goal. Step one is laying the groundwork, and yes will cost money- but have seen community driven sites work already, they may just look different from what folks are used to under the for-profit model to start
