The message is clear: people want nature protected, and they want more ambition. With 2030 fast approaching, the Government must listen and turn public support into real action for nature. Read the full article here: www.wildlifetrusts.org/news/polling...

Polling finds public ambition for nature is double that of Government | The Wildlife Trusts
New polling and evidence from The Wildlife Trusts demonstrates that the public grasp the importance of nature far more than politicians

This should hardly be a surprise. He did occasionally use 'we' when presenting, but 'they' should have featured more openly. It's time for a more realistic (and honest) GW. And preferably presented by someone who doesn't write for the Daily Mail.

d. #otd 1626 Lancelot Andrewes, bp. of Winchester. Son of a London mariner, godson and namesake of a London waterman, b. All Hallows-by-the-Tower 1555. Scholar, author, benefactor. Buried on Bankside in St Saviour's Church (later Southwark Cathedral). He never married. #earlymodern
3/4 length portrait of Andrewes (Pembroke College Cambridge), as Jacobean bishop in black square cap, grey moustache, his right arm holding a quill pen over a manuscript book. Achievement of arms in top right corner.

30+ years of this catching this morning view on visits to the UL, and still can’t resist taking one these en route.
Classic view up the river Can from a bridge looking toward another; framed by weeping willow and punts. Soft morning light.

Hasn’t been a summer for cut flowers, so enjoying these late charmers even more.
Three pink roses in a small blue bottle on a pine table: one deep pink with flat petals (Gertrude Jekyll), the other two with shorter, ruffled petals in a lighter shade (Harlow Carr).

I’ve spent almost a whole ‘writing day’ documenting intermarriages from visitation pedigrees and narrating them in a single comprehensible paragraph. The footnotes are glorious though.

Congratulations to the wonderful Mary Ann Lund (Leicester) on publication of her second (!) vol. in the Oxford Donne Sermons edition. Fantastic textual and critical scholarship on his mid-career at St Paul's.
Looking down into a box of author's copies of volume 13 in the Oxford Edition of the Sermons of John Donne: Sermons Preached at St Paul's Cathedral, 1626-1628, in their trademark Oxford English Texts light blue dust jackets.Tondo portrait in gold frame of John Donne when Dean of St Paul's; thick dark hair and beard and draped in what looks like a very un-clerical black satin toga, channeling Roman orator (latter day preacher). V&A and a contemporary copy in St Paul's Cathedral Chapter House.

Chancery experts — @thegozfather.bsky.social perhaps? I have (for the first time I think) a dedimus potestatem among some C 4 process papers. Since it requires an answer to be taken outside court, how does the dft's answer that is in the papers relate to it? Dedimus issued even after an answer?

Similarly, almost everything I spot-water (with a can, not a forbidden hose) is getting vigorously excavated by either blackbirds or foxes desperate for worms, grubs, etc. Tries my patience but a reminder that we’re not the only ones suffering in the #climatecrisis .

Tale of two quads @lincoln.ox.ac.uk . Under our no-water policy, the Front Quad (L) with trad formal lawn; and Chapel Quad (R) with native wildflowers planted as plugs 9 mos ago. Only the latter are green; as they spread and knit together, this will be how to have a sustainably green quad.
Quadrangle of Oxford college with large central lawn, closely mowed with a curved pattern still visible, but entirely brown.Another quadrangle, with central portion still green from un-mown grass and developing clumps of wildflowers.
