This can't be right. UK fishing contributes £888m to GDP. Warhammer's revenue last year was £625m, its contribution to GDP will be less than its revenue.

This prize was awarded because the Ice Cube observatory has been fantastically successful at detecting neutrinos from the cosmos (especially really intriguing high-energy ones) and also because “instead of building a big tank of water, why don’t we just kit out a whole ice cap” is a really neat idea

Monica Coglan was cross-examined for 13 hours by Archer’s lawyers in the libel trial. She was frequently in tears as her entire life and character was attacked. She died in a car crash before Archer was found guilty of perjury in that trial. Before it was found she’d told the truth all along.

That’s one way for the IDF to remind the world about the huge number of journalists it killed. Israel’s targeted killing of journalists is greater than any other government since the CPJ began counting in 1992.

What’s the price to Man City for that not happening in some sort of late negotiated settlement? A top Premier League club is worth say $4bn. That’s about $100mn each to all the clubs affected - a lot to Leicester in league one, but just a decent midfielder to City’s rivals.

Can confirm. The Scottish version (Rangers getting caught tax-dodging, going into administration to welch on the bill, being blocked from transferring the club to a new company before liquidation, so having to start as an entirely new club at the bottom of the pyramid) was glorious entertainment.

Dan McCrum @mccrum.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
It would also be a great result for the league (and the beleaguered rules-based international order). Imagine the global interest as Man City try to claw their way back up.

Which means no overseas players, but on the plus side a hit schadenfreude documentary. Of course, Man City have always claimed not to be deep-pocketed cheats, so may win an appeal and leave this all a daydream.

A majority of clubs in the EFL and the affected division would have to approve rules changes to let the cheating cash behemoth in, likely taking a promotion spot wherever they land. Otherwise it’s the welcome to Wrexham path up from the National league

Dan McCrum @mccrum.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Or multi-year cheating could justify expulsion from the Premier League, which gets really interesting because the EFL can only add teams through promotion and relegation, so entry into Championship, or League 1 or two is not a given.

Dan McCrum @mccrum.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Relegation of Man City is one option, plus “compensation unlimited in any amount to any person or to any club”. So all the premier league’s costs, and maybe damage to the integrity of its multi-billion pound brand? Perhaps £200mn to each club that finished second, £100mn to 3rd, £50mn to 4th

Dan McCrum @mccrum.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
A fun weekend daydream is considering the essentially unlimited sanctions that can be applied to a Premier League that cheated for years and scorched the earth trying to hide it.
