What a mess! “The resolution as voted yesterday goes against our agreed positions of the EGP and its Member Parties, therefore as EGP we unequivocally distance ourselves from it… we demand clarity from the leadership and parliamentary group of GPEW, to understand the official party policy.”

I say bigger than it is because nothing has come up about it on my Instagram so far, thats how I know a story breaks through. I also follow some pro-green/anti-labour lefties on Instagram, all suspiciously quiet so far.

What happened within the Green Party yesterday, a few things to note: Will be interesting to see how the Greens poll now. Will be interesting to see how certain well know ideological people on the left who are pro-Green / anti- Labour respond to the vote. This story should be bigger than it is.

Top story on the BBC. The Green Party motion has certainly got cut through...
Screenshot of a BBC News article card. The photo shows a large banner reading "Green Party Conference, Brighton Centre, 2–4 October 2026", decorated with stylised green figures and the party's sunflower logo, as a woman with long dark hair photographs it on her phone. The headline reads: "Green Party members back 'Zionism is racism' motion". The subheading reads: "The vote has caused divisions among figures at the top of the party at its conference in Brighton." It's hard to see how the Green party's motion today will avoid an investigation by the EHRC, given Labour was previously found in breach.

The thing that gets me about these lurid anti-Zionist statements, like the one the Greens just passed, is that it is *so fucking easy* to criticise the Israeli government without engaging in that type of language.

Explanation - one of the main concerns was that any Jewish member, or even any synagogue, supporting a two state solution, would be considered racist (because one of those states would be Israel). That's most left wing UK Jews. The amendment to address that concern was voted down.

Green Party conference just voted in favour of this motion, and this time, in the hall itself, specifically voted against an amendment which would have removed the element about “Zionist Synagogues”. As a result, for most Jews the Green Party will now be considered to have a policy of antisemitism.

While Caroline Lucas and Ellie Chowns spoke well against the Zionism is racism motion, I can’t help but be a bit disappointed that Zack or Hannah Spencer didn’t do so. It’s made the situation seem more factional than it needs to be, and some more unifying figures would have been really helpful.

Some Greens feel Polanski has shown a complete lack of leadership on the motion, saying he was happy to see an influx of new members but then did nothing to make sure they stuck with Green values. In fairness, the leader has few powers. But they do have influence - and Polanski has not exerted any.

When Starmer became Labour leader his priority was to rid the party of antisemitism. As the party changed and Corbyn was kicked out of the party, members left the party and a high number went to the Green Party. Polanski has a lot to answer for, the Green Party is antisemitic. It voted for it too.

Just so dispiriting to watch the Greens be corrupted by the same poison that took over Labour. All the same shit: the excuses, the mealy-mouthed justifications, the tortured position statements, the deafening silences. Like a historical reenactment.

A man builds an IED. He sets it off in a busy public street. Shrapnel flies about hitting cars, homes and a child's bedroom. It's a miracle nobody is injured. And Reform MP Sarah Pochin calls his imprisonment "disproportionate" and "two tier justice."
It does raise this point of two-tiered
justice..

Reform's Sarah Pochin believes the

blew up a ULEZ camera was
disproportionate'.

That was a really good speech by Burnham. That whole "hope again" slogan makes sense after that speech. I suspect a lot of Lib Dems and some greens would have liked that speech, something that didn't happen under Starmer. Starmer went for policies on the right, and that did not work. Will this?
