Found the email I sent when I got accidentally added to the faculty listserv of an orthopedic surgery clinic and nobody would remove me so I sent this email to all faculty/staff/med students and they removed me almost immediately
Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

For those of you who are not old enough the "sex scandal" is he & a male cohost drugged & raped the 21-year-old church secretary & paid her to be quiet about it with money from the church. (They denied it was rape but at the very least it was abuse of power by an employer) THAT IS NOT A SEX SCANDAL

Local news generally gets all the horrible ads. At least in New England. Turning on the news for storm forecast in Boston gets you all the Massachusetts and New Hampshire political ads. During a primary year, broadcast might have nothing but political ads.

I’m glad more people are pointing this out. I talked about it it a few weeks ago w/ @janus.bsky.social Companies are attempting a sleight of hand where they capture data but argue because of how it’s processed it’s not “recording” and is thus private. They are still surveillance devices!
theverge.com
We can’t just change the definition of ‘recording’
Soon, asking “Does this device have a camera?” won’t be good enough.

I remember half joking that you could set up a navigation system for Boston and the suburbs using Dunkin Donuts locations as navigation beacons. I knew this because I used to give directions to our location over the phone and always told people that if they passed Dunkins, they’d gone too far.

Kind of crazy that the gas company can take payment online and generate an email to me confirming the payment has gone through, but not actually post it to my account for 2-5 business days, forcing me to call and wait on hold for half an hour.

If we're going to denaturalize and deport people for sex trafficking they hid on their citizenship applications, is there a reason this would not apply to Ghislaine Maxwell?
CHILD SEX ABUSER’S CITIZENSHIP REVOKED AFTER NATURALIZATION FRAUD CONVICTION

Cyril Domaquik Clemens, a Liberian native, was convicted of three counts of indecent liberties with a child after confessing to sexually molesting a young child.

The abuse began before he naturalized, but he concealed it during the citizenship process, fraudulently obtaining U.S. citizenship.

Jeffrey Archer's death reminds me of the time he told a really boring story while a guest on Dame Edna's show. "Marvellous" said Edna after it petered out to its conclusion, "and I'm sure that'll make a wonderful anecdote someday".

Interesting: "From 1975 to 1990, Congress overrode an average of 12 Supreme Court decisions per term. The number fell to an average of 2.8 per term from 2001 to 2012. Since then, it has fallen nearly to zero...."

Insurers are preparing for claims when AI agents cause damage and even asking whether AI CEOs are liable for failing to control them. This is where the existential threat hyperbole meets boring business reality. AI agents hacking websites can create liability even if law enforcement does nothing.

Boston used to have something similar to that, but it had an income threshold for a fairly low increase rate, double if over. Two roommates making just above minimum wage in retail were over. The idea was that if landlords increased by that amount every year, they’d be OK.

The Russians see this sort of Orientalist claptrap as part of their Byzantine heritage. We forget they are an empire stretching to the Middle East. There’s a reason late 19c ballets, during an anti-Europe phase, were highly Orientalist. Seen as Russian, looking to the East.

A customer just tried to use an employee discount code that ChatGPT gave her. I work at a high-end clothing store and clocked in to my manager telling me about the most unhinged interaction from yesterday. A woman walked in asking if she could use a 40% off code she got online. We don't have any sales running, so my manager looks at the screen and realizes ChatGPT straight up handed this woman a real employee's internal ID number.

I can’t emphasize this enough — “AI” wasn’t born corrupt and toxic. For ~75 years, it was mathematicians and scientists doing interesting, thoughtful work and trying to solve problems, making only the usual human mistakes. What “AI” did to machine learning is as tragic as what it did to artists.

Person one: Taught my kids how socialism works. Let them trick or treat while I stayed home. Then took all their candy. Socialism 101.

Person two : The socialism part is where the community came together and fed your kids for free. The capitalism part is where you made them do all the work and stole from them.
