A few weekends ago I went to Miami and attended 9 open houses in extremely high-risk flood areas to see what agents are telling prospective buyers about them. Here is my journey

What are buyers being told about climate risk in Miami? I posed as one to find out.

In a world of policy reversal and active support for fossil fuel burning (the CMIP7 "High" scenario), we could end up well above 3C by 2100, have a ~70% chance of >4C by 2150, and a 30% chance of over 5C.

I'm just guessing that between options: (a) Exxon have altered their climate sensitivity upwards, Or (b) An employee has got mixed up because he doesn't know the specifics. Then I would guess (b). But I could be wrong.

Anyway, main points are: • BAU is horrific suffering and they are causing it for profit. • Also I imagine they are considerably underestimating the speed of the energy transition

And that's not to say that this isn't possible. But most analysis suggests 2C by 2050. And while I think it could certainly be higher than that sooner, I doubt it's reaching 3C by then.
001
Dr Matt Winning @mattywin.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
Basically I'm pretty sure that an Exxon director has said 2.5-3c by 2050, with the "by 2050" bit based on nothing. Like it will definitely lead to 2.5-3C this century. So he probably just said that and assumed since outlook projections run to 2050 that thats for temp too.
000
Dr Matt Winning @mattywin.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
Has anyone actually checked the Exxon global outlook? As far as I can see all it says is emissions will drop 20% by 2050. There's no specific analysis in there about temp in 2050. I presume it was an employee stating that those levels would lead to 2.5-3C, which we already knew.

An oil war has driven petrol and diesel prices through the roof, so ExxonMobil is doing a cutesy social media campaign to make fossil fuels seem a natural part of our day.

Enjoying how the inflation triggered by Trump's war increases the chances of the UK electing a populist climate-denying government that would have supported Trump's war and is fiercely opposed to the best solutions for tackling said inflation.

Listening to a man at the farmers market explain he’s out of eggs as “the ladies aren’t producing due to heat stress”— and another poultry vendor says he’s out, as he can’t keep them in this heat. Climate change is all around. We just have to open our eyes to see how it’s affecting our daily lives.

Globally, the hottest August in observed history is just about to end. In Western Europe, the summer of 2026 (June, July, August) has been the warmest as well. Compared to this year, 1976 (the famous UK summer) and 2003 (the hottest EU summer so far) look like amateurs in terms of heat (1/2)
