I remember when there was hot debate within DSA about this kind of thing, and even the advocates for the anti-Zionist resolutions went out of their way to claim that this wasn't what they wanted to happen.

Thirsty, sitting in an outdoor chair with a microphone on a stand: I'm starting my own podcast.
Hi, resting concerned face: What will you talk about?

Thirsty: How to be good neighbor.

this kinda stat happens because back in the day, expansion teams had to toil in their father-in-law's vineyards for seven years before they were allowed to have a winning record, and there were only three playoff games a year

this is the one where the narrator's condescending boyfriend does an awful job explaining modus tollens. never before have I so strongly wished to enter a fictional universe and steal someone's girl
'I hate it,' I said to Roger, of the p's and q's, the following weekend. We were lying on the grass on Port Meadow watching sailing boats weaving between the ducks.
'I'll explain it to you,' Roger said. On the back of his William Byrd, which he had in his pocket, he wrote, 'If p then q. Not q ... so not p.'
'If all bread were sliced bread,' Roger said, 'we would have no need of a bread knife, right?'
'Except if you spread jam with the bread knife,' I said. A thing he always did. Roger ignored me.
'We cannot do without the bread knife, so not all bread is sliced. Okay?'
'Okay,' I said.
'You are required to express this as 'If p then q. Not q therefore not p,' because symbols are more use to you than the specific examples of the bread and bread knife.'

If you ever want to be ridiculed by academics, make some really silly assertion right to their faces and make sure you do so in a way that suggests you really, really mean it.
By John M. Kainer

If you want to send a group of sociologists into an uproar, tell them a group disparity is the result of individual choice. Take your pick of groups and issues. Try telling a room full of sociologists that women are underrepresented in STEM because they prefer people to ideas, or that intergenerational poverty persists because the poor make bad decisions with money. You will likely be shut down before you reach the end of your sentence. The conviction that structural accounts offer the best and fullest explanation for human behavior is central to sociology as a discipline.

"The current level of political animosity is exactly what one would expect to see if an extremist faction attempted to rescind the hard-earned rights of the vast majority of the country’s citizens." There are not enough exclamation points to convey how I felt reading this paragraph
Screenshot of article which reads: From this perspective, the “both sides” frame falls apart. The prob-
lem is not that the parties are divided. The problem is the existential
threat that a reempowered ethnonationalist strain poses to pluralistic
U.S. democracy writ large. The current level of political animosity is
exactly what one would expect to see if an extremist faction attempted
to rescind the hard-earned rights of the vast majority of the country’s
citizens. The only way to re-oppress most of a country is to use anti-
democratic and authoritarian tactics. And the only way to oppose those
tactics is to push back as a population and clearly reject them. This is
the argument happening in the United States, and its pathology is not
anger—it is the movement to undermine a generation of rights.

"BRITAIN BECOMES DUMP FOR THE NAXI EXILES. Scores of Jews and other exiles are being smuggled into England in small foreign ships, for £25 a time." Daily Mirror, 1938. Sound familiar?
Headline: Britain becomes dump for the Nazi exilesSCORES of Jews and other exiles, abandoning their homes in the Nazi terror, are being smuggled into England by the captains of small foreign ships who slink inside the three-mile limit at night and put ashore their human cargoes for £25 a time.
This smuggling, once sporadic, is now a racket earning thousands of pounds weekly for captains of French, Dutch and Belgian trawlers.
It was exposed entirely at Hove, yesterday when two foreign seamen were gaoled for smuggling a German in at Shoreham harbour last Monday.
Britain's immigration officers are helpless. They know that Hitler is dumping his unwanted people here. They cannot stop other Mid-European Governments seizing on Britain's lethargy to lower their own unemployment figures.
Every day refugee Spaniards, Jews, Ger mans and Austrians are slipping into Britain Employment agencies are inundated by fran-tic appeals from foreigners who, scared by European unrest, want British security.

again, it's shocking but abundantly clear that the President of the United States is a grave personal threat to the rights & liberties of an innocent American
Dismissal without prejudice thus would endanger Mr. Hearn in a manner that few,
if any, Superior Court defendants have faced. Should the Court dismiss this case in a fashion that allows the government to reinitiate prosecution in the future, the Court would be exposing him to the risk that, due to pressure from the President of the United States apparently motivated at least in part by Mr. Hearn’s political views, he would again be charged with a crime that prosecutors have determined he did not commit. These risks must weigh heavily in the assessment of whether to dismiss this case without prejudice.
