Sanghi et al. arxiv find a 8 M_J super-Jupiter around one of the stars of the nearby 61 Cygni AB system! Depending on the planets' orbit (5-11 a.u.), it might disrupt the habitable zone of that star. Which just means the Tellarites have to live on a planet orbiting the other star... 🪐😉🐷

Interesting idea (Doughty et al., 2026): what if evolution was a direct function of total carbon fixated by photosynthesis? Then, using Earth's evolutionary history as a template, most potentially habitable planets around red dwarfs are still at the microbial stage....

Fascinating result. TL;DR: The planetary system will die with the sun! The "granualar" mass ejections of the dying sun (during the AGB phase) will lead to the total disruption of its planets orbits, with outer planets mostly ejected to interstellar space.

The universe around us is not static at all. Throughout the Milky Way, clouds of gas and dust are clumping together, constantly giving birth to still hidden new stars. I took this #astrophotography of the Elephant Trunk Nebula with my #Celestron #Origin right from the center of a city.
Against a backdrop of reddish, glowing hydrogen gas, dark clouds of gas and dust conceal the formation of new stars that are not yet visible. The image is dotted with blue and red stars from our Milky Way.

This has huge consequences for our understanding of life in the universe. If abiogenesis were a cosmologically rare event, it would be extremely unlikely to happen twice on the same planet. Therefore, this means life arises whenever and wherever the right conditions are given.

Wow - I did not know that the Toba erruption can be dated almost to the year!? And apparently, things returned to normal about 18 months after the eruption, so, the authors suggest, it cannot have been the reason for the near-extinction of humans at the times (the famous genetic bottleneck).
