I don’t think the U.S. attacked Iran so that the U.S. Navy could provide constant, costly escort to tankers to get some oil out of the Gulf but much less than before the war. That does not strike me as an achievement, nor sustainable, and I don’t know why it warrants praise.

@bikelaneuprising.bsky.social I miss you on Twitter Nobody else in Chicago is behaving today They all hate protected bike lanes and holding drivers accountable for turning right on cyclists They also think that the American experience isn’t harmed by sport cyclists speaking for commuters

I do not know how seruously to take this permanent daylight savings time bill, but sunrises at 8.35 am in the winter do not seem great for street safety for kids on their way to school.

The documentary Ballon sur bitume (Concrete football) is essential viewing I think of their tricks with their feet when I see Mbappé roll the ball back away from a defender

No one's arguing the FIFA's not a shit org, but them actually correcting one of their bad organizational decisions is a step in the right direction, actually.

It's the reversal of a bad rule (no appeal process), about a bad call (not a red-cardable offince by Balogun), that shouldn't have delayed the game as much as it did (how do you get to a VAR-reviewed carding on a play that wan't called as a foul in the first place?)

How can anybody possibly root for the USMNT NOW?!? Not only are they agents of the imperialist pig dogs, but they're also now clearly trying to bribe their way to a championship. Anybody who enjoys them is morally and politically bankrupt. My column, for bluesky dot app, the official app for sports

The people replying to this miss the point that we’d be okay with a yellow but no other rough/serious fouls were carded And intent does matter: doing something dangerous and doing it anyway despite the ball’s absence=intent It’s really not that hard

The only disadvantage not fully solved by electric buses is noise and discomfort N American roads are awful and our buses do have to be made for it no matter what powers them

The strait is not open, every country dependent on oil (basically everyone not named France) is gobbling through their reserves and the only thing bailing us out of an economic catastrophe at the moment is that China's reserves appear to have been far larger than thought. This is not tenable.

production of The Muppet Show should not be dependent on petty vulgarities like “ratings” or “revenue.” it should be preserved as a vital function of american culture. it should have a taxpayer-funded budget rivaling the CIA

NYC waste collection is inefficient on a beautiful spring day, but after heavy snow, it becomes insanely laborious – I’ve seen them spend an hour on one block. DSNY could collect 10x as quickly if we had common containers that they had to dig out once and could then collect from twice a day.

Thanks to Santi Ruiz for hosting @alonlevy.bsky.social on Statecraft. No thanks to most of the critics. I would add that if Alon is wrong, it’s because Americans refuse to change the thing being criticized *at all* not just because the costs are ordained to be $$$ from on high

Some national railways in Europe get higher ridership than others, but ALL of them have something to learn from others. Spain has lower ridership than France or Germany but builds infrastructure for cheap, to the point they have the biggest HSR network in Europe.
