A reminder that the second, final part of An Irish Atlantic Rainforest – the tv version – will air on @rteone.rte.ie this evening at 6.30. I've been bombarded with positive feedback since the first episode came out, and am certain people will like this one no less.

Looking for some help/advice. I’ve designed my own heat pump system using Air-to-air, but for BER energy rating I need to input Dwelling Energy Assessment Procedure (DEAP). Anyone any advice on how to get this? And, anyone had #heatpump #A2A installed domestically in Ireland with recommendations?

Our documentary An Irish Atlantic Rainforest, the first part of which airs tonight on @rteone.rte.ie at 6.30, is getting loads of attention in the newspapers, like the Sunday Times' tv section Critic's Choice.

The summer that burned Ireland - so where do we go from here?
Scorched woodland, arid crops and overheating homes and workplaces have all hit Ireland these past few months.

Europe led major markets on EV sales in H1 2026, up 30% year on year. EVs are now 30%+ of EU sales, 38% in the UK. But the real story is global. Outside the major markets, sales rose ~75%. Latin America more than doubled. India +90%. Colombia +300%. The centre of gravity is shifting. Chart: IEA

Another tipping point, electricity to from renewables above 50% in Ireland for the first half of the year! Meaning kms driving in an #EV are getting cleaner than before.

Don't look now, but the world has now installed 3TW of solar. Took 10 years to get from 100GW to 1TW. Less than 3 years to get to 2TW. Less than 2 years to get to 3TW. Analysts expect *9TW* by 2036.

I said I’d be back with an article on this. July 2026 marks a significant month in the BEV (Battery Electric Vehicles) adoption in Ireland. EV sales are up 61.06% in 2026, making them the #1 fuel type, overtaking all other fuel types!

Matthew Sealy @matthew-sealy.bsky.social · 04/08/2026
Ok, I’ve an article in progress on historical data for EV adoption in Ireland. But holy moly, #EVs are now the #1 fuel source for pass vehicles sold in Ireland! EV sales are up 61% over 2025, and hold a 26.12% market share of fuel sources, above Petrol elec (non-PHEV) at 24.59%. #EVSky #IEVA

Oh, just came back to me. Really interesting dynamic in the conversations today. Only 2 people of 17(?) speakers mentioned AI today. Why mention this? A) Electrification is about real solutions you can touch, real hands on sort of things B) The room could be felt to sour when AU was mentioned

In other news from today, it seems that this scheme was filled *technically* in minutes and not hours. Rural demand was ~20 mins to close out on, Urban took just over the hour 😮‍💨

Ireland introduced an ICE2EV scheme as of today, €10m for 2,000 vehicles, giving a €5k reduction to the price of a new car for scrapping a 13-year old vehicle. The system crashed due to demand, and when back online, was completely filled within a 3 hour window. Supposedly no one wants an #EV eh 😆

Delighted to be back presenting the Info Circuit! EV sales in Ireland are up 53% so far this year (latest data is tomorrow!!), but pricing for ESB ecars is also up, that’s not so good… Either way thanks to those who enjoyed the episode and engaged this evening! Always good fun!

Trust us, the current European heatwave is no joke 🥵 However, clear skies and long days are good for capturing power from the sun: as of 4pm this afternoon, solar farms had been meeting >30% of the ROI's electricity needs for several hours ☀️ This kind of share for solar is all new this summer 📊
A stacked area chart of the renewable electricity generation mix on the island of Ireland with the following fuel types: battery, pumped storage, biomass, waste-to-energy, hydro, solar, wind, and gas. The y axis indicates the percentage of demand being met by each source.

A decade ago, analysts were calling Spain a cautionary tale. Too much solar, too fast! Today, Spain is rapidly on its way to having the cheapest power in Europe. Maybe this time, solar naysayers will learn... haha, jk, they'll just move the goalposts.

Spain just became one of Europe's cheapest power markets. Here is how.
How wind and solar quietly pushed gas off the margin, and the wholesale price followed.

Solar is great, a slightly jaggedy line, but almost what you’d see as a perfect day for production. Also, I don’t recommend people put panels North facing, but I love the blip in the evenings where I get the setting sun on my North facing panels, running the house up to 9pm at night on Solar!!
Solar PV graph in yellow showing curve from morning to night, with a slight bump up late in the evening due to North facing panels. Pink line is battery SoC. The house used 10.55kWh over the day, while exporting 12.84kWh

Sort of an overcast day in #TreatyCity and I’m exporting away to the grid (6.1kWh of 7.8kWh generated so far). This would work really well here, we are still so far behind the curve to what we should be doing here in IRL. We don’t need trials, pilots or whatever you want to call it. Just do it!!

Challenge 1: we have an ongoing oil crisis and no one knows when it will end. Challenge 2: we have so much solar electricity we will pay people to use it on a regular basis. If only there were some kind of globally proven technology that solves both challenges (with other massive benefits).
