This is what I look like at work every day

Mascott @mascott.pizza · 24/09/2026

That said, my most recent itch to make something and the idea around it has come very specifically from years of buying random assets and what I could do with it all without knowing much about programming! The time has come for the age of the Nancy Drew-like

"Now THIS will be the Humble Bundle of Unreal Engine assets that finally gets me to make something," I said, incorrectly, for the forty-second time

Also the voice actor is the same guy who played both Jafar AND Tito Swing from Shining Time Station, which marks the second "wait they were on shining time station???" I've had this week

Mascott @mascott.pizza · 13/09/2026

I did give him a zero company neck tattoo because you know what the default is missing that

000

Mascott @mascott.pizza · 13/09/2026

I went with the default Hawks for this reason - I can make my own, but damn if the default doesn't absolutely look like the guy the voice actor is playing

Anyway I'm gonna re-read these Indy books and try to collect the ones I'm missing and they're just fun as heck, that's my complete thought here

000

Mascott @mascott.pizza · 13/09/2026

I think the same triumphs of the books carry over to the games - Great Circle gets it in a way that I think has been critically lauded enough, but Fate of Atlantis is the same way - there's space to tell these cool stories, even if Indiana winds up with an increasingly full calendar in Summer 1935

100

Mascott @mascott.pizza · 13/09/2026

They're not all GOOD, to be clear Many are outwardly bad if you look at them a second time Part of what makes them magic is that you have to go, okay, I am here for a penny dreadful - I am here for the book version of the serials Indy was based on, and that makes it so much more palatable

100

Mascott @mascott.pizza · 13/09/2026

Maybe it's because it has a strong central protagonist, but you'd get a different Luke between Zahn, Anderson, or Stackpole books These were a hot streak by 2 or 3 authors (maybe???) where you take the Indy character and go, "idk blimps and biplanes and the philosophers stone" and that's MAGIC

100

Mascott @mascott.pizza · 13/09/2026

I started reading them in high school, and they're the kind of books you can devour in a week (or an afternoon, if you don't have ADHD) The thing that's cool that I remember about them is that they always felt like they really GOT what was cool, in a way that the dozens of Star Wars EU books didn't

120

Mascott @mascott.pizza · 13/09/2026

I know so little about where these books come from - they were published by Bantam, who also handled the Star Wars EU for quite a long time, but they absolutely rule If you told me the Hellboy mythos had a direct connection to these books, I'd absolutely believe you
