If executive branch creates a system so that people under government control can be located and then just stops listing some people in that system — despite their still being under government control — that should be a five-alarm fire for the other branches, the states, and the public.

I hate doing the "a rollback of trans rights is the gateway for a rollback of women's rights" thing because trans rights are human rights in and of themselves, whatever the impact on cis women. But goddamn I wish more cis women had a sense of history and self preservation.

but persuasion efforts are mostly targeting MAHA people who are low info, not very ideologically committed and still persuadable on critical issues like vaccine. not just me saying this either—there’s good quality data to back it up. will it be successful? we’ll see. but it’s not a clear cut issue

My very unpopular take is that MAHA is right on some things in defining the problem and very wrong in defining the solution. And if you ignore that at least some segment of MAHA is because of the horrible treatment women have at the hands of medical professionals that's on you...

This year feels like a climate turning point. Wildfires, melting glaciers, flash floods, low/no snow, freakishly warm oceans, etc. Time to get smart about climate. Focus on the policies that will make the biggest difference and get them done. Lots of good still to be done.

There are endless studies showing this and also the financial and societal benefits of universal basic income and or housing-first policies but the U.S. never goes for any of it because it would require allowing the poor to receive benefits that the rich consider “undeserved”

Also, one of the deaths was an infant. The exact age was not given, but they likely were too young to have even received their first dose yet. This is why herd immunity matters, to protest the most vulnerable who cannot get the vaccine or who are too young to have been vaccinated

The fallout from the collapse of this glacier - a torrent of mud surging down the valley - killed hundreds of people. Gone, in a flash. Those people were wiped out by anthropogenic climate change. Our governments are simply not responding quickly enough to this disaster which is already upon us.

Super important. This is the coolest summer we'll get for the next 20-30 years (and that's if we drastically cut emissions now). Prohibiting OSHA heat regulations is head-in-the-sand waiting-for-more-worker-deaths bad. U.S. folks should write to their reps and tell them to oppose HR 6213.

I definitely got a COVID mRNA vaccine during the first or second trimester of pregnancy and did not miscarry (daughter is four now). 82% sounds completely untethered from reality.
