The one key feature that Microsoft isn't divulging about its new AI laptop, the Surface Book Ultra, is battery life. And if people are going to be churning through AI tokens locally, in "airplane mode," on airplanes!...that matters. www.pcworld.com/article/3255...

The Surface Laptop Ultra is an AI monster with a laptop problem
The new Surface Laptop Ultra is built for local AI, but its power draw and unknown battery life raise doubts about its practicality.

@airlineflyer.net Do you have a good estimate of the amount of seatback power airlines provide, especially international? I can't find a consistent estimate.

Microsoft has several "energy recommendations" to reduce power and maximize battery life within Windows. You can turn them on with one click... so I did some testing. I was shocked at how well they worked! www.pcworld.com/article/3245...

Microsoft Windows makes available ten "energy recommendations" that extend your laptop's battery life by hours -- and they can all be launched with just a single click.

One, this hilariously outs who all got the talking points in advance and how blatantly they parrot those. Two, Schmitt really thought today he'd launch himself to the VP nomination and with that a decent shot at the presidency down the line. Instead this is the only thing he'll be remembered for.

No. Federal appropriations law has long barred using taxpayer funds for political advertising.

Are you going to want to buy a haptic mouse? Microsoft has followed Logitech into the market with a new Surface mouse, but I'm not sure it (the haptics) makes sense from a productivity perspective. www.pcworld.com/article/3242...

Sorry, Microsoft: Haptic mice are a productivity gimmick
Microsoft has launched a new Surface Mouse, which mimics the Logitech MX Master 4 in its support for haptic feedback. Based on my experience, it's a luxury, not a must-have productivity feature.

The trouble with this is that the GOP playbook will flood the zone with disinformation, poll each of them, then find an unrelated social wedge issue that may be totally fabricated (immigrants stealing gas, for example) but resonates with voters. The polls will then narrow.

As a reporter, you never want to be the story. (Unfortunately some do.) The Holly Rowe post-game interview is not the story. The story is an AI-created video that shows the Texas coach punching Rowe. The story is Arch Manning, when asked about it, laughing and calling it hilarious.

It's interesting that you refer to it as a long time ago. It is! And jobs adhere to that timeline. But when I think of media, from film to music to books to comics, it's all so immediately accessible that it seems like it exists in some parallel time and space that uses different rules.
