Pretty clear to me there’s a very good case against this man for mass murder, and I’m saying that in as measured a fashion as I can. He’s order the killing of 234 people under no plausible war or legal justification. I am skeptical he will ever face legal accountability for til his but he should.

But let me add another reason: reversing this punitive “failing schools” legislation requires a change of Congress. If it is not reversed, it will deal a mortal wound to American conservatories and arts programs.

The stakes of these midterms are already unbelievably high, for so many reasons: the war with Iran, ICE, the endless stream of food safety recalls, the rampant corruption, self-dealing, and tinpot authoritarianism, our K-shaped economy… we are confronted with these grim realities every day.

There are of course very legitimate concerns about the cost of music degrees, and the tremendous debt that many students incur to pursue them. But this measure not only does nothing to address that, it will actually make the debt burden for music students worse.

This is an existential threat to the arts in the United States. Programs in music, theater, dance, and fine art are all at risk of disappearing, including the most prestigious American conservatories that attract students from all over the world.

Since I’m sure it comes as no surprise that being a freelance musician at the beginning of your career is (and has always been) financially precarious, the “failing schools” metric would apply to many of this country’s top music conservatories and music programs…

Under this new rule, undergraduate degree programs that, four years out from graduation, do not lead to median earnings that are higher than the median earnings of young adults with only a high school degree will be deemed “failing schools.”

Arday's dissertation was heavily plagiarized. His most widely-cited paper was dinged for lifting whole passages without proper attribution from another scholar of color, and worse, was basically a re-run of the other guy's much more influential study.
