This is so weird because you could just take a photo of your kid and then put a "school photo" backdrop on it using a basic photo app and it would be exactly the same, but without sending your kid's image through the sex pest factory. How is everyone so fucking dumb now?

PSA: if you don’t want AI on your Apple devices, think carefully about the latest update to iOS. The option to turn off AI with a single global option has been removed. There are ways to minimise it with multiple things turned off, but not to turn it off completely as before. It’s infuriating.

Incredible. First Secretary Mullin claimed that DHS had identified 15,903 noncitizens on Nevada’s voter roll. Then DHS officials told a skeptical Nevada, no no no, that’s just people we flagged. Here are the names of 185 people we KNOW aren’t citizens. All 185 were citizens. DHS got 100% wrong.
When the Department of Homeland Security sent Nevada a list of 185 names last month that it claimed identified noncitizens who had been improperly allowed to register to vote, state election officials got to work.
On Tuesday, the state sent a strongly worded rebuke to the federal government: Every single person on the list was a lawful citizen.
"As for the 185 individuals, our records indicate that they were citizens," Greg D. Ott, a deputy attorney general in Nevada, wrote, according to a copy of a letter sent to Department of Homeland Security officials obtained through open records requests.
"You have provided nothing of substance to suggest otherwise."Following the meeting, Ms. Vogt sent a clarifying email to Nevada officials. "I also wanted to be sure I clarified that we did not reduce the 15,903 to 185," she wrote. "We've manually reviewed some of the 15,903 and confirmed 185 are not U.S. Citizens."
Now, Nevada officials are saying even that 185 number is wrong. They also took issue with a letter D.H.S. sent them in early September, in which the agency reiterated its initial claims about nearly 16,000 noncitizens on the rolls and pressured state officials to review each case in a letter to Nevada officials in early September.

Great system, no notes www.propublica.org/article/scho...
Voucher programs and the private schools they increasingly fund have proliferated across the country. Yet those schools often reject children with disabilities — the very kids who were used to help sell early voucher programs to lawmakers and the public - for having needs that are too costly, complex or disruptive. That leaves those children with few options beyond the public schools. And as public schools lose enrollment as a result of more and more
voucher use, they lose resources that would benefit children who remain, including those with disabilities.

You should think about the burdens you experience at the DMV, as connected to the burdens you experience in the tax system and SNAP. That the range of ways these burdens arise are more varied and surprising than you can possibly imagine. From Lowrey: donmoynihan.substack.com/p/annie-lowr...
The sheer range of problems people encountered always shocked me. The hassle of figuring out how to send a fax from your smartphone. (Why does anyone have to send anything by fax anymore?) The challenge of answering a seemingly straightforward question, like who lives in your household. (What is a household anyway? What if you’re constantly moving, or friends and family members are forever bouncing in and out of the place where you’re living?) The conundrum of having disabling medical symptoms without having a diagnosis. (How are you supposed to get diagnosed if you can’t see the doctor?)

How big is the time tax? The numbers are astonishing. And its a regressive tax. People who need more help from government spend more time in dealign with it. People with more resources can often buy their way out of the time tax. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/annie-lowr...
Washington currently estimates that Americans spend 12 billion hours a year filling out government forms, meaning the average person spends six 8-hour workdays filing their taxes, signing up for Medicaid, renewing their driver’s licenses, and applying for government loans. At prevailing wages, this uncompensated labor is worth $430 billion a year. If Washington were to create a Department of Bureaucracy to take on the paperwork it shunts to citizens, the agency would require 5.9 million employees, making it four times the size of the active-duty military. The DOB’s payroll would be larger than that of every other federal department combined.

It can be as simple as modeling how you state your principles. "I don't read AI summaries because I don't want to replace a unique human writer's voice with a synthetic hegemonic voice." "I don't use think it's ok to feed someone's words/ideas to a corporate chatbot without that person's consent."
