Went to the library at 2:30 PM to write. Spent a lot of time staring at my screen and scribbling in my notebook. Wife texts me at 3:30, told her I’d be home no later than 4. Then the floodgates opened and words just started spilling out. Got home at 4:15. Don’t always love how my brain works.

There’s a lot that makes the NYC Marathon so special, but from a competitive standpoint, it’s the race itself that separates it from the rest. Both of today’s finishes were evidence of that. Far more exciting than watching someone sit on a pacer for 30K and wondering if they can beat the clock.

And while we're on the topic, why do the Chicago Marathon and other races in the Marathon Majors series continue to do business with Federico Rosa given the long list of high-profile athletes he’s represented that have failed doping tests? This is one of the biggest travesties in pro running today.

Love @mariofraioli.com's suggestion of a women's Bowerman Mile from today's Morning Shakeout. Honestly kind of disappointed this isn't going to be a race this weekend. Maybe we can convince Nike for next year. open.substack.com/pub/themorni...
<highlighted text> I would’ve loved to see Nike add a women’s Bowerman Mile to the upcoming Pre Classic (why there isn’t one already, I have no idea), make it the last event of the meet, invite Kipyegon, the next 10-12 fastest 1500m runners in the world, and 2-3 pacers to get them through 1K in 2:28-29, </highlighted text> hype it up on social media as a sub-4 attempt, stream it live on Nike’s YouTube channel (I know, I know, Diamond League broadcast rights, yada yada yada), and make a big f*cking deal out of it. I still don’t think Kipyegon goes sub-4 in that scenario but I bet she could run 4:05 and pull a lot of other women to some insanely fast times. Everybody wins.
