You basically have to name the plot hole & clarify it as much as possible, often by formulating it as a question in your head. Then, very quickly, your mind goes to work, because it doesn’t like leaving questions unanswered! If you never articulate the problem, it can linger in your mind forever!

There’s so much you can learn in these quiet moments. So much to see in how characters behave when things aren’t moving at a high-speed pace. You can sit with your characters, let them exist outside the world’s demands. Observe how they interact with it. Explore their interiority, and so on.

Just when you think you’re finding your rhythm, a kick to your back catches you off guard, and you stumble forward onto one knee. You keep your sword raised, but you’re vulnerable to attack, and two more cultists have stepped forward to surround you. Things are looking bad, but suddenly, music fills the forest clearing. It’s light and airy—the plucking of strings—and something about it feels enchanting in a way that bolsters your energy and renews your situational awareness. You take the opportunity to tuck and roll forward, slicing a cultist’s leg on the way by and causing them to fall to the ground.

She scooted her chair closer to the desk to make space for Grilled to go behind her. “Come over to this side. I’m going to teach you how to knit.”
He groaned, but did as he was told.
“Get that bucket from the supply closet and sit down. You’ll be here a while.”
Grilled hated sitting on buckets. He took the mop and broom out of it, flipped it over, and sat down per his mother’s orders.
“You’re good with knives,” Shallot said. “Now let’s see if you’re good with needles. I’m going to teach you how to knit. From now on, when you get in trouble, it might be the corner or it might be knitting and sewing time with me, your mother.”
The boy sighed. “Yes, Innmaster…”
