I want to be super clear that this is the thing our government is doing instead of mechanized death camps. I would argue that it is not particularly different in anything but efficiency.

If I worked in a different field I really wouldn't care if you showed up to an interview with iced coffee. However in my world it would show that you fundamentally misunderstand the job because it's a pretty niche environment where food and drink are prohibited in many areas.

Quilt hanging on a card catalog. Neutral background with navy cursive appliqué “Do you hear thr people sing?” The background is embroidered in red starting light and getting bolder the lyrics to “killing in the name” the quilting effect is a focused sunburst from the center.

There is no such thing as a perfect candidate. You vote your heart in the primary, and then strategically in the general. Sometimes you get someone you genuinely love. Sometimes it's harm reduction. Sometimes it's someone icky but convinceable. Sometimes it's "anyone but that asshole."

In response to this, the DeSantis administration releases a statement saying that they'd make this outrageous cage "even smaller if we could." The Department of Homeland Security's own Inspector General said it violated every detention standard and posed a significant danger to health and safety.
"At least ten million illegal aliens entered our country under the Biden administration. Florida decided to do something about it," Lanfranconi said. "The left-wing media wants to focus on a confinement area for violent criminal aliens who have proven they cannot remain peaceful while awaiting deportation. While it adheres to all federal standards for criminal confinement, we'd make it even smaller if we could."

This strikes me as more than a PR stunt or even a pressure point. In 1918 Westminster held elections. Nearly all the MPs elected from Ireland were from a nationalist party. They ignored Westminster & formed an Irish Parliament in Dublin* - thus independence as a fait accompli…

"They're not misunderstanding the film; they're co-opting a message"
Screencap from the interview linked in the quoted post

Marlow Stern (the interviewer): You have one of the most renowned replies in Twitter history. Elon Musk tweeted out, “Take the red pill,” then Ivanka Trump enthusiastically wrote, “Taken!” to him, and then you replied, “Fuck both of you.” I’m curious how you feel about the co-opting of “The Matrix” by those on the right who don’t really seem to understand its messaging.

Lilly Wachowski: I mean, I can’t sit in a room and explain the movie to every single person who watches it. Even if I did sit in a room with Elon Musk and Ivanka Trump — yikes — it doesn’t matter. They’re not misunderstanding the film; they’re co-opting a message. And that’s what fascists do: They co-opt the messages of progressives and use it to their benefit to confuse and obfuscate what is going on and the intention of their ideology. They do it with everything. They do it with Martin Luther King Jr. Look at how they’ve changed the idea of what antisemitism is.
