if your agents are going to commit crimes, you are legally responsible if you cannot figure out how to prevent your agents from doing crimes, you’re going to have to choose between releasing them and protecting yourself from criminal liability imo this would do more for “ai safety” than a sex cult

I don't think the Republican Party can "go back to normal" but if it did, that just means being a vehicle for undermining government and concentrating wealth, enveloped in a bunch of dishonest obfuscatory slop. Why yearn for something to return to the exact thing that fostered it

People are exceptionally good at convincing themselves of what is in their interest to believe. And being particularly good at this probably helps politicians succeed.

I think most people even those that don’t follow politics or economics closely knew on some level that crypto is a scam, and seeing it everywhere for a few years touted as the future of the economy made them skeptical of the overall health of the economy. Something similar with AI now.

One of my favorite facts about Gavin’s father.
Text from the Wikipedia entry for Gavin’s father William Newsom: For most of 1969 and 1970, Newsom traveled across Europe alongside former SS security service member Otto von Bolschwing who had been brought to the U.S. by the CIA under Operation Paperclip and appointed TCI's president by Getty due to his former Nazi intelligence connections and their value in obtaining defense technology contracts. Newsom referred to von Bolschwing as "suave", "plausible", and "world weary".

I really do think that Democrats would be doing much, much better electorally if the democratic establishment hadn’t spent every single election cycle since Reagan dismissing and outright opposing every issue young people at the time have cared about. This is the main cause of voter apathy IMO.

Last September, Israel Ambassador Yechiel Leiter met with Fetterman in his office, and suggested an alternative: Fetterman could write an op-ed explaining why he continued to support Israel, according to people familiar with the matter.

Fetterman agreed, and told Leiter he would write the submission based on any points the ambassador sent over, according to these people. A few days later, embassy staff sent over drafted points for Fetterman to consider.

Fetterman staffers decided not to tell him about it, out of concern that drafting an op-ed based on suggestions from the Israeli embassy, under the senator’s name, risked violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act. A spokeswoman for Israel’s embassy declined to comment.
