His boss chewed his ass and is making him fix it. There’s an old WWII Mauser rifle barrel whose wood is damaged that they found in a storage container. Dad is trying to get him to give it to Sluggo to restore the gun and he would restore the barrel. Boss says nope.

He’s gotten weird about things too. Example: a canoe fell from the ceiling when dad was lowering it. The rope had been partially cut by a beam during some wind. It hit the ground and was damaged. Dad was like “damn if I hadn’t been controlling the descent it could have fallen and killed someone!”

I’m not saying Dad’s boss shouldn’t retire, he’s approaching his 80s and his heart is worse than mine. But he was always so giving and cared for his employees and it seems like this was a case of “I got my bag, sucks to be y’all” and it’s upsetting.

His skills maybe even are better than my dad’s, because he’s been working just a bit longer and he does carving work where dad does more creative work with textures and burl. He has options, just like dad. But this is Texas and he’s an elder black man. He had his unicorn job.

My dad’s last day at his job is today I think. He was incredibly pissy yesterday which I totally get. He’s been at this job for 26 years and to then just lose it in a couple of months because his boss sold the building when he’d been hinting for years about selling the business to dad + coworker.
