I read something somewhere that said studios like Netflix have to pay union workers larger amounts after each of the first few seasons, so cancelling (and potentially rebooting as a "new" show later) saves them money versus taking a show to season 4. No idea if its true, though.

I often see people argue that clean energy is not reducing emissions, because it just adds to rather than replaces fossil fuels. This argument is deeply misguided – clean energy built since 2005 has displaced 23 billion tons. I dive in over at The Climate Brink:

fun fact: moths etc are not flying *at* the light, they are trying to keep the light at their backs, because for millennia that was a really good proxy for keeping your back to the sky and flying straight. Now we got little artificial suns everywhere and they get confused!

There have been two occasions in my career where I had to go to war with teammates against mistaken understandings of probability. In both cases, it was because people expected large numbers of d6s to occasionally result in maximum damage. But the curves for 3d6 and 15d6 (e.g.) look like this:
