I serendipitously came across this beautiful Henrietta Lacks statue in Bristol yesterday, whose cells I put through so many manipulations during my MPhil and PhD. It’s mind-blowing to think of how many labs across the world are using her cells to make discoveries and she died having no idea of this.
A metal statue of Henrietta Lacks, surrounded by shrubs with green and burgundy foliage and various flowers.

It’s my favourite time of the year! 🌸 I’m loving seeing all the blossoming trees + flowers while out and about, esp. magnolias which remind me of my hometown of Kyiv. Today, I also came across an unfamiliar flower species, which I learned was in the genus Anemonoides thanks to the iNaturalist app!

pretty and useful copper phosphate and tannic acid possess anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties mixed in a saline solution, they self-assemble and grow into flower-like structures the nanoflowers can be attached to small strips of electrospun nanofabric to make an antimicrobial bandage
popsci.com
Future bandages could be armed with nanoflowers
The tiny structures may help fight deadly bacteria like E. coli.

I don't see them here on the East Coast, but I still ❤️ them. My fondness & fascination for the family has never diminished. 📷: C. purpureus. #Botany 🌾🧪
