There's this thing in British politics where any seat that has a clear mix of voter types must either have socially conservative white voters or socially conservative ethnic minority ones but no there are actually quite a lot of white liberal hipsters in this seat

Dan's charisma is that of a mathematics professor with a train model diorama in his basement, Simion's charisma is that of an Eastern European used jewellery salesman, so it's all just incredible scenes.

🇷🇴 Bucharest: Supporters of Nicușor Dan are gathering and celebrating in the city center as he looks set to win Romania’s presidential election. Vote counting is still underway, but the momentum is clearly on his side.

Reform voters are those they want, as opposed to the Labour voters they actually have (and despise). This sounds like a petty point, but I think is key in understanding their strategy.

It's a bit like saying is the Netherlands anti EU because they elected Geert Wilders. To an extent, yes, but the framing of the election is from a very outside perspective. I don't think any but a minority of Simion voters think or believe that he is a threat to Romania's European position.

What I do not think the Washington understands is that it’s not Trump in himself that’s discrediting us to the allies. Every now and then in a democracy, the people elect a turd. It’s that the Constitution gives them a Mad King Removal button and they are too cowardly and cynical to press it.

NATO leaders now speak Gaullism with an accent. Atlanticism is their first language. I do not think that will be the case 15-20 years from now.

Labour must involve whole country if it wants to achieve its goals, report warns
Age of ‘command and control’ is over, says Demos, with work needed from business, charities, unions and public Labour’s missions are at risk of failing unless the government does more to involve the whole country from businesses to the wider public, as the age of “command and control” is over, a report from Demos has warned. The thinktank called on the government to embrace “mass mobilisation” for businesses, charities, unions and the wider public to drive its flagship missions, which promise growth, clean energy, cutting crime, rebuilding the NHS and reforming education. Labour's obliviousness to how Greens, LibDems, SNP and Plaid can all pull away voters that figures like McSweeney or Reeves seem to take for granted echoes Cameron's complacency towards UKIP in the late 2000s.

Completely unironically: a lot of billionaires and other financial elites are straight up just too stupid for the market economy and it's up to left-liberals like FDR to babysit these people so they don't blow themselves and everybody else up. And they're always so ungrateful about it.
