The way the pitching staff was managed was nonsensical. But the margin for error was so thin because we couldn't hit. Can't blame the pitching when you give up 3 runs a game and lose 3 out of 4.

I didn't see the broadcast, but I know people are piling on Herbie. I read it as cynicism, though not necessarily an endorsement. That said, there has to be some acknowledgment that he (Watson) brought this ALL on himself and the negativity comes from the fact that he sexually assaulted women.

My greatest frustrating has been with policy wonks who persist in thinking we can just keep doing normal policy analysis ("calling balls and strikes") in this situation. The President of the United States is both lawless and out of his mind. That preempts all normal discussion.

Asking people to understand that American dominance in women's soccer is a byproduct of Title IX, which helped foster high-level women's sports in this coontry, in stark contrast to most of the reat of the world. It's a systemic, structural thing we should be proud of.

I love the women's team and I cheer for them just as much as I do the men's team. More, even. I'm not sure why we have to put down the men to lift up the women. And it's not just because of the suspended red card - this sentiment has been rampant here since the start of the MWC. It just bothers me.

So let me say it as clearly as I can: Without basic scientific research, supported by the kind of farsighted public investment that allows large-scale, undirected, curiosity-driven inquiry, the scientific pipeline will run dry.
In daily life, people may not feel the effects right away, or even in 10 years. But we will feel it. And when someone we love needs therapies that could have emerged but didn't or when other countries now
investing in science can launch new science-based industries or run their societies on vast resources of fusion energy or reap the benefits of quantum computing power or advanced medical breakthroughs, America will wish it sustained its leadership in scientific research here and now.
