Games media cuts have felt unending for a while, but the mood feels especially grim among indie outlets with the latest wave of layoffs. More than ever, if the game industry values its media, it needs to support them. Buy some advertising, sponsor content, purchase subs. It makes a big difference.

Very honoured to have one of my sketches on the 10th anniversary release of You Died, the Dark Souls book written by @mackeza.bsky.social and Jason Killingworth. I painted the cover back in 2016, love this version by @tuneandfairweather.bsky.social www.tuneandfairweather.com/products/you...

"I'd advise editors to ask themselves: if you never get women pitching your site or applying for your jobs, why is that? Do you read female writers- and if not, why? Do you talk to women about whom they are reading, or do you only talk about work with other men? Not all of our biases are conscious."

Apropos of nothing, here's the callout I wrote for Eurogamer about the glaring lack of female voices in the games media. I wrote this in *2018*. Things did seem to get better for a while but now we're backsliding again and the reasons for it haven't changed. www.eurogamer.net/why-the-game...

Ugh, it's hard out there. I think a lot of games media people are super qualified for these roles, due to the fact we often work across mixed media, and we're online natives

If you're flipping stuff that publishers send you for free, you're directly profiting from your relationship with that publisher. Which doesn't suggest your opinion is worth much. It's also just a super unprofessional look
050
Keza MacDonald @mackeza.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
If you don't want it you can give it away! Profiteering from stuff people send you for free is not professionally defensible. This is self-serving logic

Keza MacDonald @mackeza.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Being absolutist about anything is unwise ofc - I know plenty of people who've sold stuff years down the line or after they move on to a different job etc, I'm sure people can justify it to themselves - but this here is just naked profiteering!
020
Keza MacDonald @mackeza.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
IMMEDIATELY, though? Like just turning right around and selling it the week a game comes out? I would have been fired or at the very least disciplined for this at any time in my career.

Keza MacDonald @mackeza.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
"Influencers" really will receive a box of swag and IMMEDIATELY turn around and sell it for massive profit. Sometimes they even brag about it. It's the games press who are corrupt tho, remember

Oh this is a good story from @leadergrev.bsky.social and People Make Games. Real gnarly journalism stuff. That this can happen under US libel law - which is famously protective of the press, in contrast to much more restrictive UK libel law - says a lot. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKwp...

Beggars belief that this is not only as good as Children of Time, but perhaps even slightly better? This is fast becoming an all time favourite series. Saying anything specific about it at all feels like ruining the magic but it is SO clever, unpredictable, imaginative and occasionally horrifying

Books of 2026: The Castle by Jon Ronson. Bought this less than 48 hours ago and totally demolished it. So very readable, as you'd expect from Ronson. Though it did leave me (more?) depressed about the consequence-free lives of the ultra rich

Silent Hill: Townfall is good — very good, in fact. Especially the sequence in a municipal-style high rise building which plays like a slow-burn, Ballardian take on The Raid. It's a game less of psychosexual terror than psychosocial dread: I was hooked. www.theguardian.com/games/2026/s...
