Genuinely, this completely rules

－Recently, the game has been going viral on X for its beautiful undressing animations. I’ve even read in one of your previous interviews that the development team practiced stripping themselves as reference for the undressing animations. What was the process behind making the animations actually like?

Matsui:

I’d love to know how far that story has spread. It’s true.

First, we write a plot for each undressing scene, then draw storyboards, exactly as the original team did. Then the real work begins, because the animation is essentially all keyed by hand. A designer moves the clothing’s 3D model, frame by frame, manually. It really is pretty much like the claymation method I mentioned.

We did try automating it with physics simulation first, but it was a total failure. The cloth moved in a physically correct way, but had absolutely no allure. We learned a profound lesson: accuracy and sensuality are two unrelated properties. In the end, we accepted that humans would have to do all of it.

Then VR adds its own weight. In a normal game, if something becomes awkward, you can cut away or swap models between scenes. In VR, the player can look from any angle at any time, so none of those tricks are available. The same model has to undress convincingly no matter where you’re standing. When I described this to a designer at another studio, he said, “I would never do that.” I’ve chosen to take it as a compliment.

And then, yes, the part you’ve read about. The undressing motions themselves use motion capture, but the deeper problem was that nobody actually knew the correct rhythm and order in which a person takes off clothes. So, the directors gathered and undressed themselves as reference. “That zipper is coming down too fast.” “She’d pause once before slipping her shoulder out.” These were serious, sober discussions. For compliance reasons, the Super Real Mahjong Venus Returns team works in a walled-off section of our office – and that was the moment those walls truly earned their keep.

AITA for correcting my girlfriend's family every time they mispronounce my turtle's name?
I have a turtle named Geoff. Yes I know Geoff is normally pronounced Jeff. His isnt. My girlfriend's family knows this and still calls him Jeff basically every time his name comes up.
His name starts with /dz/ instead of the normal American English J sound /d3/. So regular Geoff/Jeff is roughly /dzef/ and his is /dzef/. They are similar but they are NOT the same consonant. /d3/ is a voiced postalveolar affricate and /dz/ is a voiced retroflex affricate. Basically you make the beginning of "Jeff" with the tongue farther back/retracted, which gives it a harder, deeper "dzh" sound.
I'm really into etymology and historical linguistics so the spelling was intentional too. Geoff is already a weird spelling from a modern English perspective because gives you basically no reason to predict /dzef/ unless you already know the name. Obviously I am NOT claiming medieval Geoffrey was pronounced / dzef/. I

Hate to break it to ya pal, but Super Mario Bros. 2 isn't an original game. Yea. Blew your mind, didn't I? It's actually a reskin of the Japanese game Sonic & Knuckles. That's why Peach can glide, cause of her dreadlocks.

the xkcd average familiarity comic of two people talking, edited to read: "ai doomsday religions are second nature to us very online folk, so it's easy to forget that the average person probably only knows about the harry potter sex cult and one or two aella cognitohazards" "and sankeys, of course" "of course" captioned below "even when they're trying to compensate for it, experts in anything wildly overestimate the average person's familiarity with their field

We were watching the Wolverine Sentinel footage, and... We used to call these "high chair boss battles" because the boss looks like a baby in a high chair and you're on their tray. Now you have to see it, too 😅

screenshot from the new Wolverine game with him battling a giant Sentinel. Wolverine is on a platform that comes up to the sentinel's waist. The sentinel hands can come to rest on the platform.

A mock bad photoshop of Wolverine in the same pose from the trailer shooped into a stock image of a large baby boy sitting in a high chair and crying. Wolverine is standing on the high chair tray in a similar angle and presentation to the previous game trailer screenshot
