Well, well, well - if it isn’t the consequences of our own actions. It would appear that migrants are not, in fact, the fiscal drain we’ve been told they are by years if we go by the £4bn to £6.5bn shortfall that’s been caused by the precipitous drop in numbers under this government. Funny that.

There’s a NEET crisis and a mental health crisis among young people. I speak to dozens of my students every year who tell me their school experience was miserable. There are plenty of academic researchers with a firm critique of PISA and what it actually tells us about learning. Talk to them.

As both an academic and a writer, I am repelled by the "this looks like a long document. Would you like me to summarize it for you?" that seems to appear at the top of every pdf viewer now. NO. The *entire point* of good writing (either books or journal papers) is that every sentence has a purpose.

I think what Badenoch meant to say here is: “British employers are dependent on welfare to subsidise a massively underpaid workforce” - particularly when you consider that around 40% of claimants are actually in work. But that’s just me splitting hairs, I suppose.

As the head of a university music dept, we're at the sharp end of this. Gove's EBacc is to blame. Pupils no longer encouraged to take music GCSE -> drop in A Level + drop in teacher recruitment -> drop in university entrance -> fewer teachers trained -> schools not offering A Level or GCSE music 1/2
