last night (5am that is) I felt inspired to turn on the HPLC that I haven't touched in two years and guess what – turns out having 30 years old lab equipment around is much more fun when I can have Fable around as my lab assistant to work out the methodology together :o

My workhorse Waters 600 HPLC that I haven't really used in a while because turns out, using Windows 2000 era lab equipment is frustrating most of the time. She is still going strong tho, and it is kinda incredible that this system still works as well as it does.

It used to really suck to use the Empower software for everything, but now I can just set it up via VNC to collect raw data from the PDA and claude code is pulling the data in as the sample runs. Here is a visualization of a 1:10 diluted sample of Celsius energy drink, with a 85:15 water:acetonitrile, isocratic mobile phase.

part of this process was writing a custom blender plugin that would parse real sACN packets coming from TouchDesigner and render virtual lights in realtime as if they were real DMX fixtures.

first time I used blender to fully model the installation around a 3D scan of the dancefloor from last year. 100s of hours of work, but soo worth it in terms of coming prepared and being able to do a lot of the programming and jamming ahead of time 👩‍💻

Neat! Yeah I originally wanted to build a PoE version that can just wholesale live in a little outdoor enclosure but getting the antenna signal through my window is actually much easier than a full-blown Ethernet connection

Here's how the "PTP GM on a stick" project looks like right now. Have had this sitting around for months now, really need to push it to a fab some time.

AWS, Azure and Google Cloud built customer-facing carbon footprint dashboards not because any law required it (it still doesn't) but bc enough large customers asked about the carbon intensity of their service. so why don't you ask that question on Slack next time your company holds an "AI week"? ;)

one of my favorite cheeky papers, from 1999, is this one where the authors argue that sometimes it is better to simply wait and do nothing, because your astrophysical simulations will complete faster if you simply wait for the next epoch of compute arxiv.org/pdf/astro-ph...
