“The rise may also be attributed to the use of AI to identify books to ban. Particularly in Texas, where state legislation was difficult to understand and apply, AI was used to identify books for removal. In several cases, AI recommended banning books that were banned elsewhere, creating a snowball effect for frequently banned books while the expertise of librarians and the communities they serve are ignored.”

This is SUCH a good metaphor for using AI. What can you outsource to the robot w/o having to spend as much time explaining to the robot how to do the thing as it would take to do it yourself? W/interns, the payoff is that you're helping train humans. W/AI such training seems only to threaten humans.

I have seen so many people use an LLM to generate charts and graphs out of data in a spreadsheet, and that chart is totally inaccurate. And worse, they know it's inaccurate and use it anyway! At that point, why not just make it in Excel? There's a little button, it's hella easy.

Patrick’s threat is the same one embedded in HR 7661, a mashup of Footloose and The Godfather: Nice school ya got there; it’d be a shame if anything happened to it. By threatening loss of accreditation or funding, book banning legislators are trying to get school staff to do the banning for them.
