Just rescued a plasmid I had frozen down as E. coli stock 10 years ago, did a midi-prep with a kit older than 8 years, and diagnostic restriction digests with enzymes >10 years past their best-before date. Worked perfectly, sometimes thriftiness pays off

The truth is that the scientific process is horribly inefficient and wasteful. But the solution is NOT cutting funds and it’s NOT top down guidance of what should be studied. Instead, we should revolutionize how we publish and improve peer review.
