Hi from Lake Ontario
View from Hanlan’s Point beach; low clouds obscure the Etobicoke lakeshore buildings in the distance, various small crafts dot the water near the horizon, a sailboat mast sticks up centre, and the sun above it peaks through a gap in the clouds that seems to raise a finger

In an era when political rivals barely talk to each other unless hurling insults, it’s refreshing, inspiring even, to see two old political enemies coming together and cooperating to solve a problem that needs to be solved. That’s how it’s done. calgaryherald.com/news/politic...

With a week till nominations close for the Oct 26 municipal election, there are several wards where the candidate is unopposed. I think this speaks to 1) the toxic political climate, 2) the inadequate compensation for hours worked, and 3) general burnout. Still, this is bad for democracy.

My letter to Prime Minister Carney this morning. I’ll let you guys know if I get a reply.
Text of letter:
Your climate change leadership
To: The Right Honourable Mark Carney
August 2 2026
Dear Mr. Carney,
You are a year plus into your mandate, and you have accomplished much.
But with respect, you are failing in your greatest challenge: climate change. There are few left among us now unaware that reversing the ravages of hothouse earth is the defining task of our time. And with your power, your networks, and your influence, you are in a unique position to be a world leader here. For one is urgently needed.
Instead, you have abandoned many of the already tepid climate mitigation measures Canada had put in place. You are aggressively promoting the continued burning of fossil fuels with new pipelines and subsidies to the oil sector. And what's with this carbon capture? You and I both know this is a useless technology, one that doesn't work at anywhere remotely near the scale necessary to make a whit of difference.
You can be a champion, sir. You can reverse course. Or you can continue to fail us.
Please choose wisely. Time is running out.

From the Oxford English Dictionary: dork, n, 1 North American English (informal, derogatory), a contemptible, socially inept person. “they're all dressed like complete dorks.” In an unrelated item, Pierre Poilievre is pictured speaking at the Calgary Stampede.
Photo: Pierre Poilievre behind a microphone and flanked by two large Canadian flags. He is wearing a pure white shimmering, glimmering embroidered cowboy shirt topped by a pure white ten gallon hat with the Conservative Party logo on the front of it.
Below him is a blue sign with white letters reading, “Stampede.
A chyron at the bottom of the screen reads, “Pierre Poilievre speaks at stampede BBQ in Calgary.”
