Think it's little understood outside Egypt just how authoritarian the government is, and how much worse it's getting. Have heard stories of journalists afraid to put their names to articles about facts of life like inflation, for fear of being arrested for undermining the regime.

Watching people struggle to grasp the philosophical issues without a Marxist analysis is kinda painful. They know something is up but without the right tools they're floundering around. The bosses would always rather automate your job away because they hate paying wages. That's it, man.

The question to ask of capitalism is simple: does the right of business to exploit consumers and workers trump the right of consumers and workers to be protected from exploitation? And overwhelmingly, the AI industry's answer is YES - hence hatred of AI becoming an anticapitalist inflection point.

Mathematician & geodeist Dr. Irene Fischer helped guide NASA to the moon. Joining the US Army Map Service in 1952, she unified centuries of broken data to calculate the Earth’s precise size/shape. Her calculations allowed NASA to safely program Apollo moon landing trajectories. #WomenInSTEM (1/3)🧵
A historical, black-and-white portrait from 1966 of mathematician and geodesist Dr. Irene Kaminka Fischer (1907–2009), who unified world geodetic datums to guide NASA's Apollo moon missions. Captured in a head-and-shoulders, passport-style composition against a plain, light background, she poses facing forward with a calm, dignified, and intelligent expression. Her dark hair is styled in a voluminous, coiffed mid-century bob with a lighter, prominently swept-back section framing her forehead. She wears a dark jacket or dress featuring a wide, rounded Peter Pan collar, a thin necklace chain, and round stud earrings. Pinning her collar is an elegant, leaf-shaped brooch. In the upper right corner, the number "4" is printed as a small inset digit. The portrait conveys a formal, professional mood, serving as an important historical record of one of the 20th century's most accomplished female STEM pioneers during the peak of the Space Race.

People sometimes want to point at the rise of the solar industry as a demonstration that we've solved climate change and can relax. Meanwhile, total global carbon emissions rise, every year, because the more energy we produce, and the cheaper it gets, the more new uses the economy finds for it.
