Lost Weekend is weird as hell (complimentary). Almost every song has a long instrumental intro or outro. It has fun bangers like Lost Boys and Bobby, but also paeans to grief like the title track and As Above. It vibrates through feelings with a sense of shock and displacement from start to finish.

Stranger in the Alps, the first album...also has no bad songs. It's more low key and contemplative, with some songs that will punch you in the gut, and almost every track has some poetic lyrics that will stick in your head for ages.

For the unlikely person seeing this thread who doesn't know about Phoebe Bridgers, listen to her second album Punisher first. It has great highs and lows, and flows so well from song to song. It's full of hurt and sadness, but also moments of ecstatic fun. Every song is a hit.

But I love the new album as much as I loved Punisher and have heard great things about the show. Really like that they make attendees lock their phones up. These songs are so emotional, and filled with bursts of sadness, and joy, and anger, that need to be felt and experienced.

I've heard that people are hoping she plays Waiting Room on the tour, which is my least favorite song, so I hope not! I don't know why, but Poltergeist III hit me so hard. I saw it when I was 9, I think, and was afraid to get too close to mirrors for years afterwards, convinced that my reflection hated me. I was only vaguely aware that Heather O'Rourke was already dead in real life before I saw the movie.

Taught the Viking Age with some of that, and on grad school took a couple of sagas and eddas courses. Will try to drag up the syllabi, which I think are in a box somewhere

Also, to be clear, we had tickets for last year’s show, which was rescheduled for health reasons. We fully expected this one to get canceled by the powers that be, but were determined to see it if it wasn’t. Wore waterproof hiking gear, and had a blanket. Were still shivering an hour afterwards

About to see Ray LaMontagne and these are ridiculous conditions. 25 mph winds driving in rain under the pavilion at Harbor Lights. The tent is about 40% empty and that’s being generous. Everyone is very cold.

The lack of crowd at the Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston. Blowing wind and rain not really visible but very much there, trust me.

It feels dumb to complain about, but I’ve been mostly enjoying the new House of the Dragon season, even though it’s bleak and most characters are unlikable. But then they brought back my least favorite GoT innovation: unexplained teleportation.
