The Magna Via in Calderdale, Yorkshire, which is an ancient sunken road or holloway. Also known as the Wakefield Gate, it served as the main medieval and early modern highway connecting Halifax to Wakefield. The Devil's Bridge, #Ceredigion, painted by Rev Charles Annesley in the early 1800s. The lowest of the bridges is the one in question - #folklore states it was built by You-Know-Who in a single night but ironically it was actually the work of monks - in the 12th Century! Extraordinary. #Wales #devil

When I see wide way through a wood, walled with stone, I think only of futility and the coming of those feral days when the trees shall take back what was stolen from them. A tide of tangle and thorn is the future of this path. I feel it echoing back as I walk the now. #DAKilroy

#Fungi #FungiFriday Came across this Conch growing on a fallen log, with colours appropriate for Autumn.
A large conch fungi jutting out from the dark grey of a rotting log. It is a rough semi circle with bands of cream and orange colouring on top. Beneath the thick lip, the underside shows a few guttation drops.

Ancient Greek figurine of a barber cutting a man’s hair, 5th century BC. Brings to mind the ‘chatty barber’ joke: Q. How should I cut your hair Sir? A. In silence! 😂😂😂 Coincidentally this joke can also be traced back to the 5th century BC! Altes Museum, Berlin 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows a terracotta figurine of a barber cutting a man’s hair with a rectangular base. Seen in profile, the barber on the left, stands behind his seated, bearded customer, holding cutting shears to the hair at the back of the customer’s head. The barber wears a short white linen kilt. His customer wears as long white tunic.

Slow corrodes the ancient stone through damp and dusty years. The hands and feet that rubbed and trudged, the air that flowed and coughed; all took their timeless toll right here in this old country church. St. George’s, Anstey, Hertfordshire. #AdoorableThursday
Church doorway inside a porch showing considerable erosion to the walls around it. Above the arch are two floral motifs to either side. One of the two wooden doors is ajar; the stones of the threshold show much wear from centuries of parishioner use. A porch window is visible to the right and below is a tiled floor and doormat.

The biggest change on the school run isn't what's there - it's what's not. On average, there are now 73,915 fewer car journeys on school days in the capital. That means healthier, greener choices, and cleaner air for our kids.
Graphic with the headline “Imagine a queue of cars from London to Newcastle.” A map of England shows a line of cars stretching from London to Newcastle upon Tyne. An orange circle states “On average, 73,915 fewer car journeys.” Text at the bottom reads: “That’s how many fewer car trips are being made in London each school day compared with when the Mayor took office ten years ago.” The Mayor of London logo appears at the bottom right.

Three saints for Saturday at Jerpoint Abbey, Ireland. In this remarkable tomb chest, Saints Peter, Andrew and Thomas (with a lance?) are finely cut from stone.
End of a stone tomb chest showing carvings of three saints in a row, surrounded at the top by other carvings. The saints are: Peter (bearing keys); Andrew (with the cross on which he was martyred) and Thomas (possibly) showing him bearing what looks like a spear or lance (the weapon of his martyrdom).
