I shared this sentiment on Instagram and a man—a former fraternity brother—obliquely threatened me and my family from what he thought was a private account. It wasn’t. I called him directly on his cell phone this morning. Panic, apologies, excuses, hung up. Don’t bring piss to a shit fight.

The problem isn’t that they’re moving past it—it’s that they’re trying to rehabilitate it. Would be better for everyone if people who don’t want to engage with the facts just talked about the play on the field and left it at that.

different point: while I understand Eidsheim's argument (racialization of sound abstracted from sensuous, concrete people, thus reproducing voice <=> identity), I think the argument is too narrow to justify the heart of the point.

reading thru early release history of Vocaloid – tbqh there's some fascinating parallels between 2004 and the anthropomorphizing discourse, at least from a broad angle

Tragic epic poem about a postdoc who finally gets tenure only to find that to get there they turned themselves into exactly the sort of clout chasing professionalised neurotic who couldn't possibly actually enjoy the freedom it offers.

destroying Greek life would be useful for stemming an entire mode of social reproduction which, as I must remind everyone, was born of the confederate south. Greek life prides itself on keeping the tradition of rape alive in more than one form. Sometimes literal.

After being raped by a man on my hall sophomore year, I couldn’t leave my dorm room for weeks and failed several classes. I had to take out student loans so I could retake those credits. We almost never talk about the financial toll of campus sexual assault on survivors.

Mathematicians studied knots under "knot theory" for about a quarter of a millenium, but never analysed what kinds of knots humans have actually tied. In this paper we applied knot theory to study human-made knots spanning over ten millennia. Turns out some of our everyday knots are very old.
