A core part of the problem is that parents want their sons to be able to access male privilege more than they want to stop sexual violence. You have to let go of the fraternities. And the men’s only athletic teams. And any other boys clubs.

But it’s also true that these systems are just misogynistic. And we’re so busy holding victims to an impossibly high standard that we forget to ask the most basic questions about whether people like police did their jobs effectively.

All of this. I also want to add that, in my research, I found that a lot of “inconsistencies” in a victim’s story actually came from gender bias affecting investigators’ record keeping and interview methods.

Just a reminder that people don’t always realize they were raped in the immediate aftermath. It can take hours, days, months, and even years to realize you were raped, and it doesn’t make it any less true. There are many kinds of responses, including fawning and trying to appease your rapist

It happens so often it can be hard to even see. Men having the same experience I am, but I hit a place where the attention becomes unpleasant. Inuendos start. I have to wiggle out of something I did not start (cautiously! trying not to upset any dangerous egos!) so I leave, while the men get to stay

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

You know, researchers since the 1980s have found that men can tell when they don’t have consent. They just choose to continue anyway because they prioritize consent as less important than power, domination, and sexual gratification.

In many ways, the only thing boys need to learn are the lessons we already teach girls. They need to learn to be part of a community. And if they understand that, then the lessons on consent and sexual violence come naturally.

Another big one is teaching your son to see girls as equals. Instead of enrolling him in sex-segregated sports, introduce him to a co-ed team. And help him foster his more “feminine” interests where we can be in mixed-sex spaces, making mixed-sex friend groups.

Basically, whether on LinkedIn or Instagram, there is a push among white people in rich countries to do post-hoc rationalisations for their chatbot addictions taking a fascinatingly similar form to the same thing where high-carbon lifestyles are rationalised bc "BP invented the carbon footprint"

GenAI is what I am going to optimistically call "pre-systemic" - it hasn't been baked in yet. And the stakes are HIGH, bc once baked in, the climate impacts push it up into a high category among the plastics industry, agriculture etc So....what that means is that heavy users *are* morally culpable

Don’t ask an elected official if they “believe” in climate change, it’s not a religion. Don’t ask if they think it’s serious: it is. Ask them what matters most: what are they doing about it? Excellent application here, 10/10 no notes 👏⬇️👏

One of the Cornell students accused of gang rape, Scott Kretzschmar, denies it and says through his attorney that they are going to “confront” the survivor through the court system. I can already tell you that means victim-blaming, DARVO, and smears. She is going to need a lot more of our support.

People don’t understand how fragile our water infrastructure is. I’ve had contaminated water in the last six years. I’ve had my water co. hijacked for digital ransom. We are in perpetual near drought conditions... in NC, not AZ. AI boosters use pedantry about water use as an accountability shield.

And I really do think that's what most of our disabled comrades are complaining about, insofar as they are. Not that we haven't eliminated all health risks in our spaces but that we don't behave like this stuff matters for all of us as a movement...

*We're" the ones who force them into having to consider their health individually when we decline to think about it collectively, rather than working with our disabled comrades to make reasonable choices re: weighing risks. Something they have more experience with anyway!

And yeah when you put people in that position, you are only gonna hear from certain people. You aren't gonna hear from people who don't want to talk about their personal needs in an organizing context, they'll just be quiet and protect themselves. Which is a big loss.
