If the Republican justices really cared about preventing new seats, the single easiest thing is at least one or even two of them could resign under the next Dem president. That we take it for granted they never would shows exactly how highly they prioritize their partisanship over any other concern.

genuinely think that chartbeat and real-time audience traffic insight dashboards are one of the worst things to happen to the media industry. it found out what people read and wanted and public trust has pretty much only sharply declined since then

How ‘Woke 1’ Radicalized the GOP
On May 30, 2020, five days after the death of George Floyd, the head of a prominent DC-area think tank issued a stentorian condemnation of the killing and the bigotry she said had enabled it.

An acquaintance is being sexually harassed at this job. I see him about once a week and ask how it’s going. Today he confessed, he can’t afford to leave because of his student loans. The point of debt at a national level, at an indivisible level, is docility. It’s capital’s greatest asset.

The tragedy of Biden's presidency is not its lack of success, but how little its success was recognized. The claim Democrats don't have a policy program is false. Finishing the projects Biden began, working with Bernie Sanders and others, should be central to the project of the next president.

Hey California! Be careful this election because the big money creeps are trying to trick you (again).
There's a trap on your ballot in California. Here's how to get past it.
1. Prop 40: 250 billionaires pay with they owe so hospitals, schools, and food assistant survive the federal cuts. Vote yes.
2. Props 41 and 42: paid for by billionaires to cancel prop 40. Vote no.
3. Tell one person, because the confusion is the plan.
Yes I'm 40. No on 41 and 42.

The political system is just not designed for someone who isn't a patriot. A traitor, yes, but somewhat who just didn't give a damn about the nation and its well-being and its symbols? I'm not sure any political system anticipates that.

The more combative Dems get, the more of this they will run into. It will be a coordinated wave of elite opinion, scolding them, tamping them down. The fight strategy *only* works if they are willing to bull their way through it, blow it off, mock it. (Their history does not raise one's hopes.)

The main lesson of the last 25 years of the GOP holding power is that they are totally incompetent at governing & everything breaks & many people die as a result (Katrina, wars, Covid, ICE, etc). Ask yourself if that ever appears as the central frame in media coverage of politics & the two parties.

The headline refers to "exaggerated portrayals of one candidate as a con artist and the other as a drunk"; the article then spends a lot of time detailing a single incident, which has been widely exaggerated beyond all proportion and recognization, and finally turns to Ramaswamy's career exploits, which are by no measure being exaggerated beyond defensible arguments as to their social impact. Why couldn't this article be accurately headlined: In Ugly Fight For Ohio Governor, Exaggeration of Single Personal Incident Is Pitted Against a Plutocrat's Career and Its Consequences. Concerned readers are eager to know.
