#MedievalMonday The Pele Tower in Corbridge Northumberland was built c. 1300 - troubled times in borderlands. Much of masonry is reused sandstone from nearby #Roman town. Tower was a defensive home for vicar of adjacent St Andrew's church until 17th C. It's now a micro bar. Of course it is.

Two storey rectangular tower built of large blocks of sandstone. Narrow windows are visible on the two sides shown. The upper level has angle turrets and a parapet.
It's situated in the churchyard of St Andrew's church in Corbridge, and graves and headstones are visible around the tower, with some of the headstones placed around the bottom of the walls of the pele tower.

The Welcome Inn, Cork. Inside there is a metal plaque on the bar commemorating the landlords from 1845 to the 21st century. Among those listed are John Arnott's brewery in 1898. That is the year John Arnott died, and Murphy's brewery took them over just three years later. @beerfoodtravel.bsky.social

I am of the opinion that most any pub can be a success given the right landlord/landlady. I have friends who took on a pub best known for stabbings and turned it into one of the best pubs in southwest London with good food and great beer.
