It’s been a while since I had a proper Brexit rant. Then GB News’s US Political Editor declared Britain “is not a European country”, completely rewriting reality, and my restraint promptly left the fucking building. How many excuses do Brexit’s champions get before they answer for the mess?

Avg GDP growth 1945-79: 2.8% Since then: 1.6% And this apparently "broken, economically stagnant" basket case kept its AAA status right through the Winter of Discontent We lost it under Cameron, and it fell again under May, then Johnson, and then Truss: i.e. the whole time Clarke was in govt

Its unlikely Simon Clarke has bad memories of the 1970s as he was born in 1984. This helps to explain why he forgets a recession made worse by Thatcher driving interest rates up with her uneccessary monetarist policy. The only thing that saved the tories was the Falklands war & North Sea oil.

The whole Thatcher 'economic miracle' was stealing the UK's assets and sellling them to her mates under value for a quick short term profit. At the same time Norway was utilising its assets to create the world's biggest sovereign fund. The 80s is still killing our economy today.

Online Nation report from Ofcom makes for fascinating reading. X visitor monthly numbers another 13% down in 2025 on top of over 20% in 2024. Average time-per-day down from 14 mins to 9 mins to 6 mins - and considering X's post-Musk permissiveness on bots, I'd suggest the real data is much worse.

Unlike Simon Clarke, I was alive during the 1970s. A combination of low inequality, low crime and aspects of culture made 1976 one of the happiest years on record in the UK. The IMF bailout had zero impact. Lesson for Simon, happiness is not just a function of wealth.

I have deep & lasting memories of my first, 6week long, visit to US in 1975, when I made a huge circuit of the country. Abiding impression? It made me realise I’m a European. I’ve felt the same on all subsequent visits. US is very foreign to the European sensibility. I regret we’re so in thrall.

The UK is on the European Continental shelf and 7000 years ago Britain was connected by land to the European mainland. It would be equally absurd to claim that Corsica or Sicily are not European, because they are separated from the European mainland by water. Are we all sick of this ignorance now?

We're repeatedly told that asylum seekers pose a threat to the good people of our country... Reading about the threatening and violent treatment of elderly and open minded locals in Crowborough I get the impression that the real threat comes from closer to home. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
On Facebook and other platforms, people
who are known to support the asylum
seekers have been threatened with acid
attacks, petrol bombs and rape. The dossier.
which has been seen by the Guardian, also
claims that several local businesses have
been threatened by far-right agitators, along
with a church where some asylum seekers
worship. One man was punched in the throat
after he held up a "Love Thy Neighbour"
sign, while an elderly couple were falsely
accused of supporting sex offenders. In yet
another case, a 92-year-old church volunteer
was reportedly woken at 3am for two nights
in a row by a man standing outside her
home, shining a torch through her window
and shouting abuse

The death penalty is a moral abomination. State-sanctioned barbarism pushed by incompetent morons and sanctioned by the Supreme Court. Absolute ghoul shit. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
The lone woman on Tennessee's death row was still alive after she was administered two lethal injections, her lawyer said in a motion seeking to halt her execution Wednesday night, a stunning development after the Supreme Court had stepped in to allow the state to put her to death.
At 8:26 p.m. local time, witnesses said
"executioners had injected both syringes of lethal injection chemicals and Pike is still alive and snoring," her lawyers said in a federal court filing.
They said Pike "has not lost consciousness and still has a heartbeat," and that curtains to the death chamber "have gone down twice."
