Nice piece by Tom Rowley. Doesn’t seem like five years have passed since he sat in our kitchen talking about where to put a bookshop in south London.

realizing i never posted it here….but too long have we been limited by the 2-dimensional political alignment chart. i think by using my new tool we can truly map another person's politics. here it is: The Ideology Cube

It will never not be wild to me that the Russians attacked Keir Starmer's home, successfully spread falsehoods about Starmer's love life, and this didn't changed British politics and British political elite behaviour *at all*.

3 panel comic titled “Logging into Bluesky”

Panel 1:
A Pink Guy bursts into Bluesky wearing a t-shirt that says “Fun”. His little face looks so happy.

Panel 2:
Six Bluesky users turn to look at the Pink Guy. They all look dour and angry because they have been overdosing on the discourse. Having the current state of the world mainlined into their veins for 22 hours a day has left them real grumpy.

Panel 3:
Pink Guy slowly removes his t-shirt and quietly says “sorry”. He won’t soon forget that Bluesky is the home of Serious Discussion. If he wants “Fun” maybe he should log into the Barney the Dinosaur forums.

I've said versions of this before but social media is meant to be fun, WAS fun for some years, and we hit problems when people started to believe it was a viable way of conducting debate.

David's tragedy here is a lesson for us all. If you're planning on going to a thing where you know there'll be no trouble getting in, BUY A TICKET. The number of stories I've heard of events cancelled due to lack of interest, and then a load of people pop up to say "Oh I meant to book that!"

"What good reasons might someone have to think the opposite to me on this issue" is a really good question that's quite hard to ask yourself, especially on something you really care about. But saying your opinions are "just common sense" is a real giveaway you've never done it.

I genuinely cannot understand how the Labour government has now had two, genuinely cultured prime ministers who both looked at Lisa Nandy’s record there and went “I’m pleased with this. I want this to continue.”

I can't work out if this is intended as a punishment to Lisa Nandy, who clearly hates the job; or a punishment to the entire UK culture sector, which is suffering as a result of that. Maybe both?
