The famous ChomChom roller that all of us cat types swear by has had a bit of an upgrade -- Black & Decker now make one and it's even better than the original, IMO. Tip: do a back-and-forth motion, not long sweeps. Affiliate link, may benefit wonky moggies

Did u know? When caterpillars turn up to nibble on your brassicas in the summer, don't spray,or pick them off, just bide your time. Once caterpillars have had their fill, they'll pupate, leaving your brassicas to recover, then it'll be your turn to nibble. Mine are bouncing back, beautifully.🌱🌿🇬🇧🌿🌍🪲🐛🥦

I'm going to tell you a story and then, at the end, I'm going to ask you if anyone happens to have the niche knowledge I need to help... The story begins, as so many of my stories do, in an ancient church in the middle of a city. But it's not now. And it's not hundreds of years ago. It's the 1960's

I'd very much appreciate it if you took a moment to read the alt text on this (and follow the link). www.tom-cox.com
The photo is one I took during a long coastal walk of the Daymark, a brutalist Victorian shipping tower in Devon, UK, with a stubble corridor cutting through a field of wheat and leading up to it. The building is old, mysterious, seems a bit like it's from outer-space, likes being near the sea, and looks like it could be a great psychedelic record cover so I think it fairly well sums up the writing on my website, which I wanted to invite new followers here to have a look at via the link above. There's absolutely LOADS on there, much of it readable for free, if you decide to sign up for the emails where I send it out. I want to lure people who enjoy my writing and photography to sign up for my newsletter because I would dearly love to step away from the pace and algorithmic madness of social media and I much prefer newsletters as a way of communicating. Which will ultimately give me more time to write (I hope). My suggestion is that you sign up for the free package then, if you like it, you can always support my writing by signing up for the paywalled stuff too. I've offered a choice of prices, starting at less than £2 per month, so hopefully everyone who really wants to read everything I write will be able to afford it. But if you subscribe in any way you'll be doing me and my writing a favour.

The UK uses c227,000 miles of wrapping paper each year – much of this isn’t recycled. Some gift wrap can’t be recycled, and will inevitably end up in landfill. So choosing sustainable wrap, ribbon & tape – and recycling it – is one way to cut waste. More: littlegreenspace.org.uk/reviews/casc...

The story behind 'I Will Survive' was entirely new to me. How meta. (From Simon Napier-Bell's entertaining Substack.)
In fact, her passion to survive didn't actually grow out of a break-up, but from a snapped spine when she fell off stage. After six months in a body cast Polydor threw her a bone with a new single — a clunky disco version of Substitute, an old Righteous Brothers hit. The B side was a song her producer had written that no one wanted. At Studio 54, the DJ preferred it
— and played it.
By the end of 1979 it had been number one across the world and Gloria Gaynor was
immortal.

The Peace of Wild Things by Wendell Berry

When despair for the world grows in me
And I wake in the night at the least sound
In fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake rests
in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
