The year is 2030. Taylor Swift released a new album last week. She has already re-released 9,000 versions of it. You ask if this is a bit much, and a Swiftie immediately decapitates you. This is legal for them to do, as has been decreed by God Emperor Taylor Swift.

It's great to see tailoring accommodate such extreme movement today. This level of tailoring was a bit more common in the past, as you can see in old films featuring Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly, but many modern suits will lift off the wearer's neck even when they're just walking.

lol. Lmao, even
THE NERVE

For one, he's still smarting from a six-year-old petition that tried in vain to get him removed from a linguistics association for alleged racist statements. "In the old days," he said of cancellation culture on a recent podcast,
"there were public hangings, public crucifixions, burnings at the stake. The electronic equivalent is the internet petition with 600 signatures."
That petition must have hit extremely hard.
After all, to liken it to a crucifixion is not a very Steven Pinker thing to do. Generally he considers it prudish wokeism to complain that words are "toxic" or "violent." Like many American academics, he believes that speech, no matter how bullying or racist or cruel, can never be criminal. Just last year he tweeted:
"Speech is not violence. Violence is not speech."

There's a reason we insisted on featuring Tim Curry's Frank N. Furter on the cover of our book. It's because it's probably the most influential drag performance of all time. Here's what we wrote about him
Tim Curry, Queen of the Midnight Scene

“I just wanted you to go further with it. You
weren’t letting go completely.”
Michelle Visage to Sasha Velour during
the 9021‐HO challenge

If Divine terrified and fascinated the mainstream 1970s with his
size, demeanor, and rage-based drag, then Tim Curry terrifiedthem, because his drag made them want to fuck him. Crossing
the draggy aggression of glam rock with the sensual archness of

Mick Jagger, Curry tapped into his nasty feminine side and cre-
ated the immortal sweet transvestite from Transylvania, Frank‐-
N‐Furter, in the greatest cult film of all time, The Rocky Horror

Picture Show. Curry has never stated or articulated his sexuality
publicly, so while we can’t claim him as a queer man, we can still
claim him as a queer icon, because his performance was like a
big pansexual nonbinary sex bomb going off smack in the middle
of the most sexually open decade in centuries, the 1970s. Curry’s
Frank‐N‐Furter was simply hot and up for anything, regardless
of who was involved or which way they swung. Coming at a time
when people like David Bowie had already cracked open the door
on nontraditional, nonbinary presentation styles, Curry’s thick
lips, heavy eye makeup, and sinewy body turned on everyone
and made the young queer and trans folks in Rocky Horror’s
countless midnight audiences feel like they weren’t such freaks
after all—or even better, like they were freaks and wasn’t that a
glorious thing to be?
The cult success of The Rocky Horror Picture Show spawned
a subcommunity around it, full of its own traditions, slang, and
mode of dress, all based on or playing off the film itself, similar
to the midnight movie traditions that spawned the Cockettes.

None of this is notable in the general sense because all subcul-
tures, from underground comics fans to S&M clubs, have all

the trappings of their own cultures. But starting in the mid-
1970s, because the film’s cult following practically demanded

cosplay from its most ardent fans, it allowed and encouraged
countless young men to step out in public on a Saturday night
wearing fishnets, heels, a face beat to the gods, and a corseted

bustier—for over four decades. For the entire span of a genera-tion, The Rocky Horror Picture Show encouraged men—queer,
questioning, or not—to get in touch with their feminine sides
and then show them off to the world. For some of these men, it

was a doorway opening up new ideas about their gender iden-
tity or sexual orientation; but for the majority, it was about ex-
isting in a space that allowed them to do something they’d never

normally think to do in their own life. In some ways, getting
cishet men to try drag and feel a little freaky about it was a

more significant achievement on the film’s part than the count-
less men it walked up to the closet door and opened it on the

realization of their own queerness.
If Divine used drag in part to express her rage and to let loose

her id, then Tim Curry used it to express his desire and desir-
ability. Curry’s drag was the first time mainstream folks openly

admitted they found drag hot. Of course there have always been
plenty of folks who found the non-gender-conforming sexually
attractive, but it was a big damn deal for people to go around
admitting it in the (more or less) mainstream in 1975. People
tend to think of drag as something composed of glamour and
focused on beauty or a style of performance designed to get
laughs, but it can just as easily be a vehicle for anger or a tool to
explore desire, which is why it makes such great inroads to acting
and why Michelle Visage considers every drag queen an actress.
Tim Curry straddled all the lines of drag—boldness and
camp; male, female, and nonbinary; gay, bi, and pansexual—in
an underground film that satirized old Hollywood horror films

and musicals in order to explore themes of desire, fear, and per-
sonal freedom of expression. What does that have to do with

Drag Race?
What part of that doesn’t have something to do with Drag
Race? The cover to Legendary Children, featuring Tim Curry among a sea of legends
