Before Brexit UK was part of the Dublin system: if someone crossed into the UK by small boat, but they'd already claimed asylum in France, Italy, Germany or wherever they first arrived, the UK could legally send them straight back . Now we've got no automatic right to return anyone.

Have you looked at the demography by educational attainment? Norfolk is my home county many of my peers remained there, living very insular lives. Fun fact: Medieval & Elizabethan Norfolk ports traded extensively with western Europe, Dutch was spoken, marsh land was drained by Dutch.
